1 John 1

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.

1 Olen omin silmin nähnyt Kristuksen, kuullut hänen puhuvan ja koskettanut häntä käsilläni – häntä, joka oli olemassa jo ennen maailman luomista. Hän on Jumalan antama elämä, joka on tullut tänne Jumalan luota.

2 And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

2 Puhun siis Kristuksesta, joka on ikuisesti kestävä elämä. Ensin hän oli Isän luona, ja sitten me saimme nähdä hänet.

3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.

3–4 Kerroimme teille tästä kaikesta näkemästämme ja kokemastamme, jotta teilläkin olisi sama ilo kuin meillä ja samanlainen yhteys Isään ja hänen Poikaansa, Jeesukseen Kristukseen.

4 We write these things so that our joy may be complete.

5 And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

5 Jumala on antanut edelleen teille välitettäväksi tämän sanoman: Jumala on valo, eikä hänessä ole pimeyttä.

6 If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

6 Me siis valehtelemme, jos sanomme olevamme hänen ystäviään, vaikka jatkamme pimeässä elämistä syntiä tehden.

7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

7 Mutta jos elämme – niin kuin Kristus – valossa lähellä Jumalaa, silloin meillä on yhteys toisiimme ja Jeesuksen, hänen Poikansa, veri puhdistaa meidät kaikesta synnistä.

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

8 Jos emme myönnä olevamme syntisiä, petämme itseämme ja kieltäydymme uskomasta tosiasioita.

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

9 Mutta jos tunnustamme syntimme hänelle, voimme luottaa siihen, että Jumala uskollisuudessaan antaa meille Kristuksen teon tähden anteeksi ja puhdistaa meidät kaikesta väärästä.

10 If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.

10 Jos väitämme, ettemme ole tehneet syntiä, valehtelemme ja leimaamme Jumalankin valehtelijaksi, sillä hän sanoo meidän olevan syntisiä.
