1 Samuel 13

1 Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty-two years.

1 शासन शुरू करते समय शाऊल की आयु तीस वर्ष की थी, और उन्होंने इस्राएल पर चालीस वर्ष तक शासन किया.

2 He chose for himself three thousand men of Israel: Two thousand were with Saul at Michmash and in the hill country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the troops he sent away, each to his own home.

2 इस्राएल राष्ट्र में से शाऊल ने अपने लिए तीन हज़ार पुरुषों को चुना. इनमें से दो हज़ार उनके साथ बेथेल के पहाड़ी क्षेत्र के नगर मिकमाश में तथा शेष एक हज़ार बिन्यामिन की सीमा में गिबिया नामक स्थान में योनातन के साथ रहने लगे. शाऊल ने बाकी सभी को घर लौट जाने का आदेश दिया.

3 Then Jonathan attacked the Philistine outpost at Geba, and the Philistines heard about it. So Saul blew the ram’s horn throughout the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear!”

3 योनातन ने गेबा में स्थित फिलिस्तीनियों की टुकड़ी को हरा दिया. फिलिस्तीनियों को इसकी सूचना प्राप्‍त हो गई. स्थिति को समझते हुए शाऊल ने सारे इस्राएल में यह संदेश भिजवा दिया, “सारे इब्री सावधान हो जाएं!”

4 And all Israel heard the news: “Saul has attacked an outpost of the Philistines, and now Israel has become a stench to the Philistines!” Then the people were summoned to join Saul at Gilgal.

4 सारे इस्राएल राष्ट्र ने इसका मतलब यह निकाला: “फिलिस्तीनियों की छावनी पर शाऊल ने हमला किया है, जिसके फलस्वरूप अब उनके लिए इस्राएल एक घृणित शत्रु बन गया है.” तब लोगों को शाऊल के सामने एकत्र करने के लिए गिलगाल नामक स्थान पर बुलाया गया.

5 Now the Philistines assembled to fight against Israel with three thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and troops as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They went up and camped at Michmash, east of Beth-aven.

5 इस्राएल से युद्ध के लिए फिलिस्तीनियों ने तीन हज़ार रथ, छः हज़ार घुड़सवार तथा एक ऐसी सेना तैयार कर ली थी, जो गिनती में वैसी ही लगती थी जैसे सागर के किनारे के रेत के कण. इन सबने जाकर मिकमाश नामक स्थान पर बेथ-आवेन के पूर्व में तंबू डाल दिए.

6 Seeing that they were in danger because their troops were hard-pressed, the men of Israel hid in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in cellars and cisterns.

6 जब इस्राएली सेना को यह अहसास हुआ कि वे यहां कठिन स्थिति में आ फंसे हैं, क्योंकि उनकी सेना पर दबाव बढ़ता जा रहा था, सेना ने गुफाओं, झाड़ियों, चट्टानों, गड्ढों तथा कुंओं में जाकर छिपने लगे.

7 Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan into the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul, however, remained at Gilgal, and all his troops were quaking in fear.

7 कुछ इब्री तो भागकर यरदन के पार गाद और गिलआद तक चले गए. मगर शाऊल गिलगाल में ही ठहरे रहे. उनके सैनिकों पर घोर भय छाया हुआ था.

8 And Saul waited seven days for the time appointed by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the troops began to desert Saul.

8 शाऊल इस स्थिति में शमुएल द्वारा बताए गए समय, सात दिन तक ठहरे रहे. मगर शमुएल गिलगाल नहीं आए. सैनिक शाऊल को छोड़कर जाने लगे.

9 So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered up the burnt offering.

9 तब शाऊल ने आदेश दिया, “मेरे पास होमबलि तथा मेल बलियां लाई जाएं.” शाऊल ने होमबलि चढ़ाई.

10 Just as he finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him.

10 ठीक जैसे ही उन्होंने होमबलि चढ़ाना खत्म किया ही था, शमुएल वहां आ पहुंचे. शाऊल उनसे भेंटकरने तथा उनका अभिवंदन करने उनके निकट गए.

11 “What have you done?” Samuel asked. And Saul replied, “When I saw that the troops were deserting me, and that you did not come at the appointed time and the Philistines were gathering at Michmash,

11 उसी क्षण शमुएल ने उनसे प्रश्न किया, “यह क्या कर डाला है तुमने?” शाऊल ने स्पष्ट किया, “जब मैंने देखा कि सेना मुझे छोड़ भागने लगी है, तथा आप भी बताए हुए समय पर यहां नहीं पहुंचे, तथा वहां फिलिस्तीनी मिकमाश में इकट्ठा हो चुके थे,

12 I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will descend upon me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”

12 मैंने विचार किया, ‘अब तो फिलिस्तीनी निश्चयतः गिलगाल आकर मुझ पर हमला करेंगे, और मैंने याहवेह से सहायता की बिनती ही नहीं की.’ तब इस विवशता में मैंने होमबलि चढ़ा दी है.”

13 “You have acted foolishly,” Samuel declared. “You have not kept the command that the LORD your God gave you; if you had, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.

13 शमुएल ने उत्तर दिया, “तुमने एक मूर्खतापूर्ण काम किया है! वह आदेश, जो तुम्हें याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर द्वारा दिया गया था, उसका तुमने उल्लंघन कर दिया है. यदि तुमने उस आदेश का पालन किया होता, याहवेह इस्राएल पर तुम्हारे शासन को हमेशा के लिए स्थिर कर देते!

14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought a man after His own heart and appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept the command of the LORD.”

14 याहवेह ने अपने लिए एक ऐसा व्यक्ति खोज लिया है, जो उनके हृदय के अनुकूल है. याहवेह ने उसे ही अपनी प्रजा का नेतृत्व करने के लिए चुन लिया है; यह सब इसलिये, कि तुमने उन आदेशों का पालन नहीं किया, जो तुम्हें याहवेह द्वारा दिए गए थे. अब तुम्हारा शासन चिरस्थायी न रहेगा.”

15 Then Samuel set out from Gilgal and went up to Gibeah in Benjamin. And Saul numbered the troops who were with him, about six hundred men.

15 इसके बाद शमुएल गिलगाल से बिन्यामिन प्रदेश के गिबिया नगर को चले गए. शाऊल ने शेष रह गए सैनिकों को इकट्ठा किया. ये गिनती में लगभग छः सौ थे.

16 Now Saul and Jonathan his son and the troops with them were staying in Geba of Benjamin, while the Philistines camped at Michmash.

16 शाऊल, उनके पुत्र योनातन तथा बाकी रह गई सेना बिन्यामिन प्रदेश के गेबा में ही ठहरे रहे; जबकि फिलिस्तीनियों का शिविर मिकमाश में था.

17 And raiders went out of the Philistine camp in three divisions. One headed toward Ophrah in the land of Shual,

17 फिलिस्तीनी शिविर से तीन छापामार दल निकले, एक दल उस मार्ग पर, जो शुआल देश के ओफ़राह नगर को जाता था,

18 another toward Beth-horon, and the third down the border road overlooking the Valley of Zeboim facing the wilderness.

18 दूसरा दल उस मार्ग की ओर, जो बेथ-होरोन की ओर जाता था तथा अन्य दल उस सीमा की ओर चला जाता था, जो निर्जन प्रदेश की दिशा में ज़ेबोईम घाटी के ढलान पर है.

19 And no blacksmith could be found in all the land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, “The Hebrews must not be allowed to make swords or spears.”

19 संपूर्ण इस्राएल राष्ट्र में कोई भी लोहार न था क्योंकि फिलिस्तीनियों ने इस आशंका के चलते यह रोक रखा था, “हमारे विरुद्ध प्रयोग के लिए इब्री तलवारों और भालों का निर्माण न करने लगे!”

20 Instead, all the Israelites would go down to the Philistines to sharpen their plowshares, mattocks, axes, and sickles.

20 फलस्वरूप इस्राएलियों को अपने हल की फाल, कुल्हाड़ी, हंसिया तथा काटने के उपकरणों में धार पैनी कराने के लिए फिलिस्तीनियों के पास ही जाना पड़ता था.

21 The charge was a pim for sharpening a plowshare or mattock, a third of a shekel for sharpening a pitchfork or an axe, and a third of a shekel for repointing an oxgoad.

21 तब हल की फाल पर धार लगाने के लिए दो तिहाई शेकेल; कुल्हाड़ी या अंकुश की धार लगाने के लिए एक तिहाई शेकेल देना होता था.

22 So on the day of battle not a sword or spear could be found in the hands of the troops with Saul and Jonathan; only Saul and his son Jonathan had weapons.

22 तब युद्ध के समय शाऊल और योनातन के साथ के सैनिकों के पास न तो तलवार थी न भाला. हां सिर्फ शाऊल और उनके पुत्र योनातन के पास ये हथियार थे.

23 And a garrison of the Philistines had gone out to the pass at Michmash.

23 फिलिस्तीनी सेना की एक टुकड़ी मिकमाश के पर्वतीय संकरे मार्ग में निकल हुई थी.
