1 Samuel 18

1 After David had finished speaking with Saul, the souls of Jonathan and David were knit together, and Jonathan loved him as himself.

1 जैसे ही दावीद और शाऊल के बीच बातें खत्म हुईं, योनातन और दावीद के बीच गहरा संबंध बनना शुरू हुआ. योनातन के लिए दावीद प्राणों से प्रिय हो गए.

2 And from that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father’s house.

2 शाऊल ने उसी दिन से दावीद को अपने पास रख लिया और उन्हें अपने पिता के घर लौटने की आज्ञा ही न दी.

3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.

3 योनातन ने दावीद से वाचा बांधी, क्योंकि दावीद उन्हें अपने प्राणों से प्रिय हो गए थे.

4 And Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, his sword, his bow, and his belt.

4 योनातन ने अपने औपचारिक वस्त्र उतारकर दावीद को दे दिए, जिनमें उनकी तलवार, उनका धनुष-यहां तक उनका कटिबंध भी शामिल था.

5 So David marched out and prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.

5 शाऊल जिस किसी काम के लिए दावीद को भेजा करते थे, दावीद उसमें सफलता ही प्राप्‍त करते थे. शाऊल ने उन्हें सैन्य अधिकारी चुन लिया. इससे न केवल सेना में हर्ष की लहर दौड़ गई बल्कि शाऊल के सेवक भी इससे प्रसन्‍न हो गए.

6 As the troops were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with tambourines and other instruments.

6 जब फिलिस्तीनियों का संहार कर विजयी सेना लौट रही थी, इस्राएल के सारा नगरों से आयीं स्त्रियों ने नृत्य करते और गाते हुए शाऊल राजा से भेंट की. वे खंजड़ी तथा तन्तु वाद्य वादन करती हुई बहुत ही आनंदित थी.

7 And as the women danced, they sang out: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

7 वाद्यों की सही पर गाती हुई स्त्रियों के गीत के शब्द थे: “शाऊल ने अपने हज़ारों शत्रुओं को मारा मगर, दावीद ने अपने दस हज़ार शत्रुओं को.”

8 And Saul was furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?”

8 इससे शाऊल बहुत ही क्रोधित हुआ. यह राग शाऊल के अप्रसन्‍नता का कारण बन गया. वह विचार करते रहे, “उन्होंने दावीद को दस हज़ार का श्रेय दिया है, मगर मुझे सिर्फ एक हज़ार का. तो फिर अब उसके पास राज्य के अलावा और किस वस्तु की कमी रह गई है?”

9 And from that day forward Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

9 उस दिन से दावीद से शाऊल को जलन होने लगी.

10 The next day a spirit of distress sent from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied inside the house while David played the harp as usual. Now Saul was holding a spear,

10 अगले दिन परमेश्वर द्वारा भेजी गई एक दुष्ट आत्मा झपटती हुई शाऊल पर उतरी और जिस समय दावीद वाद्य वादन कर रहे थे, शाऊल आवेश में आ गए और अपने ही घर में तहस नहस करने लगे. उस समय शाऊल के हाथ में भाला था.

11 and he hurled it, thinking, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.

11 शाऊल ने दावीद पर भाला फेंका. वह विचार कर रहे थे, “मैं दावीद को दीवार से छेद दूंगा,” मगर दो बार दावीद अपनी चतुराई से बच निकले.

12 So Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with David but had departed from Saul.

12 शाऊल दावीद से डरने लगे, क्योंकि याहवेह दावीद के साथ थे, मगर उनसे दूर.

13 Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,

13 शाऊल ने दावीद को वहां से हटाकर हज़ार सैनिकों के सेनापति का पद दे दिया. तब दावीद इन सैनिकों को लेकर युद्ध पर जाते, और उन्हें वापस ले आते थे.

14 and he continued to prosper in all his ways, because the LORD was with him.

14 दावीद जिस किसी काम में हाथ डालते, वह सफल ही होता था, क्योंकि उन्हें याहवेह का साथ मिला हुआ था.

15 When Saul saw that David was very successful, he was afraid of him.

15 जब शाऊल ने देखा कि दावीद कितनी सफलताएं प्राप्‍त करते जा रहे हैं, वह दावीद से और भी अधिक डरने लगे.

16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was leading them out to battle and back.

16 दावीद सारे इस्राएल तथा यहूदिया के प्रिय पात्र बन चुके थे, क्योंकि उनकी युद्ध नीति सराहनीय थी.

17 Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage. Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I need not raise my hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”

17 एक दिन शाऊल ने दावीद से कहा, “सुनो, मेरी इच्छा है कि मैं अपनी बड़ी बेटी का विवाह तुमसे कर दूं. तुम्हें बस इतना ही करना होगा कि तुम मेरे लिए साहसी योद्धा होकर याहवेह के युद्ध लड़ो.” वास्तव में शाऊल का सोचना यह था, “यह करने पर दावीद की हत्या का दोष मुझ पर नहीं बल्कि वह फिलिस्तीनियों पर आएगा. ज़रूरी ही नहीं है कि मैं उसकी हत्या की कोशिश करूं, फिलिस्तीनी ही यह काम पूरा कर देंगे!”

18 And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my family or my father’s clan in Israel, that I should become the son-in-law of the king?”

18 दावीद ने शाऊल को उत्तर दिया, “कौन होता हूं मैं? इस्राएल में क्या महत्व है मेरे संबंधियों या मेरे पिता के कुल का, कि मुझे राजा का दामाद होने का सम्मान मिले?”

19 So when it was time to give Saul’s daughter Merab to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.

19 फिर भी, जब दावीद और शाऊल की बेटी मेराब के विवाह का ठहराया हुआ दिन आया, शाऊल ने उसका विवाह मेहोलावासी आद्रिएल से कर दिया.

20 Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David, and when this was reported to Saul, it pleased him.

20 वास्तव में शाऊल की बेटी मीखल को दावीद से प्रेम था. जब शाऊल को इसकी सूचना दी गई, वह इससे प्रसन्‍न हो गए.

21 “I will give her to David,” Saul thought, “so that she may be a snare to him, and the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “For a second time now you can be my son-in-law.”

21 शाऊल ने विचार किया, “मैं यह विवाह कर देता हूं, मीखल ही दावीद के लिए एक फंदा बन जाए, और तब फिलिस्तीनी ही दावीद की हत्या कर दें.” यह दूसरा मौका था, जब शाऊल ने दावीद के सामने दामाद होने का प्रस्ताव रखा था; “अब तुम मेरे दामाद बन सकते हो.”

22 Then Saul ordered his servants, “Speak to David privately and tell him, ‘Behold, the king is pleased with you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become his son-in-law.’”

22 दूसरी ओर शाऊल ने अपने सेवकों को आदेश दे रखा था, “दावीद से अकेले में यह कहना, ‘सुनो, महाराज तुमसे बहुत खुश हैं. इसके अलावा तुम सभी सेवकों के प्रिय हो; राजा के दामाद होने योग्य तो सिर्फ तुम्हीं हो.’”

23 But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem trivial in your sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”

23 शाऊल के सेवकों ने यह वक्तव्य दावीद के लिए दोहरा दिया. यह सुन दावीद ने उन्हें समझाया, “क्या समझते हो तुम लोग? क्या, राजा का दामाद होना कोई साधारण बात है? मैं एक निर्धन व्यक्ति हूं—एकदम तुच्छ.”

24 And the servants told Saul what David had said.

24 जब दावीद के ये विचार शाऊल तक पहुंचाए गए,

25 Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king desires no other dowry but a hundred Philistine foreskins as revenge on his enemies.’” But Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines.

25 शाऊल ने इसका उत्तर इस प्रकार दिया, “दावीद से यह कहना, ‘राजा तुमसे कोई बेटी के मोल की उम्मीद नहीं कर रहे. वह तुम्हारे द्वारा फिलिस्तीनियों से सिर्फ बदला ही लेना चाहते हैं. तब इसके लिए तुम्हें उन्हें सिर्फ एक सौ फिलिस्तीनी पुरुषों के लिंग की खाल लाकर देना होगा.’” इसके द्वारा शाऊल सिर्फ यह चाह रहे थे कि दावीद फिलिस्तीनियों के हाथ में पड़ जाएं और मारे जाएं.

26 When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived,

26 जब शाऊल के अधिकारियों ने जाकर दावीद को यह सूचना दी, राजा के दामाद हो जाने के लिए दावीद खुशी से तैयार हो गए. तय किए गए समय के पहले ही,

27 David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.

27 दावीद अपने साथियों के साथ निकल पड़े, दो सौ फिलिस्तीनियों को मार गिराया और दावीद ने उनके लिंग की खाल ले जाकर राजा को भेंटकर दी कि वह राजा के दामाद बन सकें. शाऊल ने अपनी बेटी मीखल का विवाह दावीद से कर दिया.

28 When Saul realized that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David,

28 इस बात के प्रकाश में, कि याहवेह दावीद के साथ हैं, तथा यह भी कि उनकी बेटी मीखल दावीद से प्रेम करती है,

29 he grew even more afraid of David. So from then on Saul was David’s enemy.

29 शाऊल दावीद से और भी अधिक डर गए. उससे शाऊल दावीद के स्थायी शत्रु बन गए.

30 Every time the Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.

30 तब फिलिस्तीनी सैन्य अधिकारियों ने युद्ध के लिए इकट्ठा होना शुरू कर दिया. जब कभी वे हमला की कोशिश करते थे, दावीद शाऊल के सभी अधिकारियों की अपेक्षा कहीं अधिक जयवंत होकर लौटते थे. इससे दावीद बहुत ही प्रसिद्ध होते चले गए.
