Jeremiah 19

1 This is what the LORD says: “Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. Take some of the elders of the people and leaders of the priests,

1 Assim diz o Senhor: “Compre um vaso de barro de um oleiro; chame alguns líderes do povo e sacerdotes

2 and go out to the Valley of Ben-hinnom near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. Proclaim there the words I speak to you,

2 e vá ao vale de Hinom, perto da porta do Oleiro. Lá você deve anunciar as palavras que eu lhe falar”.

3 saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster on this place that the ears of all who hear of it will ring,

3 Diga: Ouçam a palavra do Senhor, reis de Judá e moradores de Jerusalém! Assim diz o Senhor Todo-poderoso, o Deus de Israel: “Vou trazer um terrível castigo sobre este lugar; quem ouvir o que aconteceu a Jerusalém vai sentir os ouvidos zumbirem.

4 because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in this place to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

4 Porque esse povo me abandonou e fez deste vale um lugar vergonhoso. Aqui eles queimavam incenso a ídolos, a falsos deuses, que os antigos israelitas e os primeiros reis de Judá jamais adoraram. Eles encheram este vale com o sangue de inocentes!

5 They have built high places to Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I never commanded or mentioned, nor did it even enter My mind.

5 Construíram nos montes altares dedicados ao deus Baal para queimarem seus filhos como sacrifício oferecido a Baal, um pecado tão horrível que eu não seria capaz de imaginar, quanto mais ordenar!

6 So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

6 Mas está chegando o dia”, diz o Senhor, “em que este vale não será mais chamado Tofete, nem vale de Hinom, mas vale da Matança.

7 And in this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hands of those who seek their lives, and I will give their carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.

7 “Aqui os planos de defesa de Judá e de Jerusalém irão por água abaixo. Aqui os soldados de Judá serão mortos pelos inimigos, pelas mãos daqueles que os perseguem, e os corpos ficarão espalhados sobre a terra para serem comidos pelas aves e pelas feras.

8 I will make this city a desolation and an object of scorn. All who pass by will be appalled and will scoff at all her wounds.

8 Vou riscar esta cidade do mapa e ela vai virar alvo de zombaria; quem passar por aqui vai abrir a boca de espanto ao ver a desgraça que eu trouxe sobre esta cidade.

9 I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and distress inflicted on them by their enemies who seek their lives.’

9 Farei o inimigo cercar Jerusalém por tanto tempo que a comida e a água acabarão. Então os moradores de Jerusalém começarão a comer os seus próprios filhos e filhas, cada um comerá a carne do seu próximo.

10 Then you are to shatter the jar in the presence of the men who accompany you,

10 “Então quebre o vaso de barro à vista de todos esses homens que vieram com você,

11 and you are to proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will shatter this nation and this city, like one shatters a potter’s jar that can never again be repaired. They will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to bury them.

11 e diga a eles o seguinte: Assim diz o Senhor Todo-poderoso: Vou quebrar esta cidade e seu povo em pedaços, como se quebra um vaso de oleiro! E, da mesma maneira como é impossível restaurar este vaso, será impossível restaurar este povo e esta cidade. A matança será tão horrível que não será possível enterrar os mortos; os corpos serão até mesmo enterrados em Tofete.

12 This is what I will do to this place and to its residents, declares the LORD. I will make this city like Topheth.

12 Assim farei a Jerusalém e aos seus moradores”, declara o Senhor, “farei que ela fique como o vale de Tofete, um lugar imundo e nojento. Eu mesmo farei isso acontecer.

13 The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will be defiled like that place, Topheth—all the houses on whose rooftops they burned incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”

13 Eu mesmo encherei as casas de Jerusalém de gente morta. Eu mesmo vou deixar impuras as casas de Jerusalém, inclusive os palácios, como o vale de Tofete; sim, todas as casas em cujos terraços os moradores de Jerusalém queimaram incenso às estrelas e derramaram vinho como oferta a seus ídolos ficarão cheias de cadáveres”.

14 Then Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the courtyard of the house of the LORD and proclaimed to all the people,

14 Quando Jeremias voltou do vale de Tofete, onde o Senhor mandou que ele profetizasse, foi ao pátio do templo do Senhor e de lá disse a todo o povo:

15 “This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I am about to bring on this city and on all the villages around it every disaster I have pronounced against them, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to heed My words.’”

15 “Assim diz o Senhor Todo-poderoso, o Deus de Israel: ‘Ouçam! Vou trazer sobre esta cidade e sobre as vilas ao seu redor todas as desgraças que prometi, porque vocês se recusaram a ouvir e obedecer as minhas palavras’”.
