Jeremiah 34

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.

1 बाबेल का राजा नबूकदनेज्ज़र अपनी सारी सेना को लेकर येरूशलेम तथा इसके निकटवर्ती नगरों से युद्धरत था, पृथ्वी के सारे राष्ट्र एवं इनकी सारी प्रजा नबूकदनेज्ज़र के अधीन थी, इसी परिस्थिति में येरेमियाह को याहवेह का यह संदेश प्रगट किया गया:

2 The LORD, the God of Israel, told Jeremiah to go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him that this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.

2 “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का यह आदेश है: यहूदिया के राजा सीदकियाहू को यह संदेश दो, ‘यह याहवेह की वाणी है: यह देख लेना कि मैं इस नगर को बाबेल के राजा के अधीन कर दूंगा और वह इस नगर को भस्म कर देगा.

3 And you yourself will not escape his grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.

3 तुम उसके हाथ से बचकर निकल न सकोगे, निश्चयतः तुम पकड़े जाओगे तथा उसे सौंप दिए जाओगे. तुम बाबेल के राजा को प्रत्यक्ष देखोगे, वह तुमसे साक्षात वार्तालाप करेगा और फिर तुम बाबेल को बंदी कर दिए जाओगे.

4 Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;

4 “ ‘फिर भी, यहूदिया के राजा सीदकियाहू, याहवेह का संदेश सुनिए! आपके संबंध में याहवेह ने कहा है: तुम्हारी मृत्यु तलवार प्रहार से नहीं होगी;

5 you will die in peace. As spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who preceded you, so people will burn spices for you and lament, ‘Alas, O master!’ For I Myself have spoken this word, declares the LORD.”

5 तुम्हारी मृत्यु शान्तिपूर्ण स्थिति में होगी. जिस प्रकार तुम्हारे पूर्वज राजाओं के सम्मान में, उन उच्चाधिकारी के लिए, जो तुम्हारे प्राचीन काल थे, धूप जलाया गया था, वे तुम्हारे सम्मान में भी धूप जलाएंगे, वे तुम्हारे लिए विलाप भी करेंगे, “धिक्कार है आप पर स्वामी!” यह इसलिये कि यह मेरी उक्ति है, यह याहवेह की वाणी है.’”

6 In Jerusalem, then, Jeremiah the prophet relayed all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah

6 भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह ने येरूशलेम में यहूदिया के राजा सीदकियाहू को यह पूरा संदेश दे दिया,

7 as the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and the remaining cities of Judah—against Lachish and Azekah. For these were the only fortified cities remaining in Judah.

7 इस समय बाबेल के राजा की सेना येरूशलेम तथा यहूदिया के इन नगरों से युद्धरत थी. लाकीश तथा अज़ेका, क्योंकि ये ही यहूदिया के ऐसे गढ़नगर थे, जो सुरक्षित रह गए थे.

8 After King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to proclaim liberty, the word came to Jeremiah from the LORD

8 जब राजा सीदकियाहू ने सारी प्रजा से, जो येरूशलेम में थी, उद्धार वाणी की वाचा स्थापित की, याहवेह का यह संदेश येरेमियाह को भेजा गया.

9 that each man should free his Hebrew slaves, both male and female, and no one should hold his fellow Jew in bondage.

9 हर एक व्यक्ति अपने इब्री सेवक को तथा अपनी इब्री सेविका को विमुक्त कर दे, कि कोई भी सजातीय यहूदी बंदी न रह जाए.

10 So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in bondage. They obeyed and released them,

10 सारे अधिकारियों एवं सारी प्रजा ने इस आदेश का पालन किया. वे सभी इस वाचा में सम्मिलित हो गए, कि हर एक व्यक्ति अपने सेवक को अथवा सेविका को विमुक्त कर देगा, कि कोई भी बंधन में न रह जाए. उन्होंने आज्ञापालन किया और उन्हें विमुक्त कर दिया.

11 but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.

11 किंतु कुछ समय बाद सभी ने अपना निर्णय परिवर्तित कर अपने सेवकों एवं सेविकाओं को पुनः अपने अधिकार में ले लिया जिन्हें उन्होंने मुक्त किया था.

12 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

12 तत्पश्चात येरेमियाह को याहवेह की ओर से याहवेह का यह संदेश भेजा गया:

13 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I made a covenant with your forefathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying:

13 “इस्राएल के परमेश्वर याहवेह ने यह कहा है: मिस्र के निर्गमन के अवसर पर दासत्व आवास से उन्हें निराश करते समय मैंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों से यह वाचा स्थापित की थी,

14 Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not listen or incline their ear.

14 ‘प्रति सातवें वर्ष तुममें से हर एक अपने मोल लिए हुए उस इब्री दास को मुक्त कर दे, जिसने छः वर्ष तुम्हारी सेवा पूर्ण कर ली है. तुम्हें उन्हें सेवा मुक्त करना होगा.’ किंतु तुम्हारे पूर्वजों ने न तो मेरे इस आदेश का पालन किया और न उन्होंने मेरा कहा सुनना ही चाहा है.

15 Recently you repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.

15 यह सत्य है कि कुछ ही समय पूर्व तुमने मेरी ओर उन्मुख होकर वह किया है: जो मेरी दृष्टि में सुधार है. हर एक ने यह घोषणा की है कि उसने अपने पड़ोसी को विमुक्त कर दिया है. तुमने मेरे नाम में प्रतिष्ठित भवन में एक वाचा भी स्थापित की थी.

16 But now you have changed your minds and profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.

16 यह होने पर भी तुमने विमुख होकर मेरी प्रतिष्ठा अशुद्ध कर दी और हर एक ने अपने-अपने सेवक-सेविकाओं को पुनः अपने अधिकार में ले लिया, जिन्हें उन्होंने इसके पूर्व विमुक्त किया था, जैसा कि स्वयं उनकी भी अभिलाषा थी. तुमने उन्हें पुनः अपने सेवक-सेविकाएं बना लिये.

17 Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his neighbor. So now I proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

17 “इसलिये अब याहवेह का संदेश यह है: तुमने हर एक व्यक्ति द्वारा अपने सजातीय बंधु एवं अपने पड़ोसी को विमुक्त करने की घोषणा करने के मेरे आदेश का उल्लंघन किया है. अब यह देखो, कि मैं तुम्हें छुड़ाने की घोषणा कर रहा हूं, यह याहवेह की वाणी है, मैं तुम्हें तलवार, महामारी एवं अकाल को सौंप रहा हूं. मैं तुम्हें पृथ्वी के सब राष्ट्रों के लिए आतंक बना दूंगा.

18 And those who have transgressed My covenant and have not fulfilled the terms of the covenant they made before Me, I will treat like the calf they cut in two in order to pass between its pieces.

18 जिन लोगों ने मेरे साथ स्थापित की गई वाचा भंग की है, जिन्होंने इस वाचा की अपेक्षाओं को पूर्ण नहीं किया है, जो उन्होंने मेरे साथ स्थापित की थी, जिस वाचा को उन्होंने बछड़े को दो भागों में विभक्त कर उन भागों के मध्य से निकलकर अविचल घोषित कर दिया था.

19 The officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the court officials, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the pieces of the calf,

19 यहूदिया तथा येरूशलेम के अधिकारी, संसद के अधिकारी, पुरोहित तथा सारी प्रजा, जो विभक्त बछड़े के मध्य से होकर निकले थे,

20 I will deliver into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives. Their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.

20 इन सभी को मैं उनके शत्रुओं के हाथों में सौंप दूंगा, जो उनके प्राणों के प्यासे है. उनके शव आकाश के पक्षी तथा पृथ्वी के वन्य पशुओं के आहार हो जाएंगे.

21 And I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives, to the army of the king of Babylon that had withdrawn from you.

21 “यहूदिया के राजा सीदकियाहू को तथा उसके अधिकारियों को मैं उनके शत्रुओं के हाथों में सौंप दूंगा तथा उनके हाथों में जो उनके प्राणों के प्यासे हैं तथा बाबेल के राजा की सेना के हाथों में, जो तुमसे दूर जा चुकी है.

22 Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”

22 यह भी देखना, कि मैं यह आदेश देने पर हूं, यह याहवेह की वाणी है, और मैं उस सेना को इसी नगर में लौटा ले आऊंगा. वे इससे युद्ध करेंगे, इसे अधीन कर लेंगे तथा इसे भस्म कर देंगे. और मैं यहूदिया के नगरों को उजाड़ एवं निर्जन बना दूंगा.”
