Joshua 1

1 Now after the death of His servant Moses, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying,

1 Depois da morte de Moisés, homem que servia ao Senhor, Deus falou ao assistente de Moisés, chamado Josué, filho de Num:

2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, you and all these people, and cross over the Jordan into the land that I am giving to the children of Israel.

2 “Agora que meu servo Moisés está morto, você será o novo líder do povo de Israel. Prepare-se para guiar todo este povo na travessia do rio Jordão para entrar na terra que eu estou dando aos israelitas.

3 I have given you every place where the sole of your foot will tread, just as I promised to Moses.

3 O que prometi a Moisés, repito a você: ‘Todo lugar onde vocês pisarem, eu darei aos descendentes de Israel.

4 Your territory shall extend from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great River Euphrates—all the land of the Hittites—and west as far as the Great Sea.

4 Seu território se estenderá desde o deserto, ao sul, até as montanhas do Líbano, ao norte; desde o mar Mediterrâneo, a oeste, até o rio Eufrates, a leste; incluindo ainda toda a terra dos heteus’.

5 No one shall stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

5 Ninguém será capaz de impedir a sua marcha enquanto você viver, pois eu estarei com você, assim como estive com Moisés; não o abandonarei nem deixarei de ajudar você.

6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I swore to their fathers I would give them.

6 “Seja forte e corajoso! Você terá sucesso como líder do meu povo e vai conquistar a terra que prometi aos seus antepassados.

7 Above all, be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may prosper wherever you go.

7 É importante que você seja forte e valente e que tenha o cuidado de obedecer a todas as leis que Moisés ordenou. Se você quer ter sucesso em tudo o que vai fazer, seja obediente a todos os pontos da Lei que meu servo Moisés passou para você, sem se desviar para a direita nem para a esquerda.

8 This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do.

8 Não se canse de lembrar ao povo as leis deste Livro, e você mesmo trate de meditar nelas todos os dias e todas as noites, para ter certeza de que está sendo obediente em tudo o que nele está escrito. Só assim você prosperará e terá sucesso.

9 Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

9 Digo e repito: Seja forte e corajoso! Nada de desânimo e não fique com medo! Lembre-se bem: O Senhor, o seu Deus, estará com você, esteja onde estiver!”.

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people:

10 Então Josué deu as seguintes instruções aos oficiais de Israel:

11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”

11 “Passem pelo acampamento, e digam ao povo para prepararem o suprimento e o equipamento. Daqui a três dias vamos atravessar o rio Jordão e conquistar a terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, prometeu a nós!”

12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,

12 Depois Josué convocou os chefes das tribos de Rúben, de Gade e da meia tribo de Manassés e disse:

13 “Remember what Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’

13 “Lembrem-se do acordo feito com Moisés, servo do Senhor, quando o Senhor deu a vocês descanso nesta terra deste lado do Jordão.

14 Your wives, your young children, and your livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of valor must be armed for battle to cross over ahead of your brothers and help them,

14 As mulheres, as crianças e o gado poderão ficar aqui. Mas todos os guerreiros, bem armados para a luta, têm de ir à frente das outras tribos, atravessando o Jordão e ajudando seus irmãos israelitas a conquistarem o território.

15 until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”

15 Somente depois que o Senhor, o seu Deus, arranjar um lugar de descanso para eles, como deu a vocês, é que vocês poderão voltar e ocupar o seu território, que Moisés, servo do Senhor, deu a vocês, a leste do Jordão”.

16 So they answered Joshua, “Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go.

16 Eles concordaram com isso e prometeram obedecer a Josué como o comandante deles.

17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. And may the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses.

17 “Obedeceremos às suas ordens como obedecemos a Moisés”, afirmaram eles. “Que o Senhor, o seu Deus, esteja com você, como esteve com Moisés.

18 Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words, all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”

18 Se algum dos homens, seja quem for, se rebelar contra as suas ordens, morrerá! Só queremos que você continue com ânimo e com coragem”.
