Joshua 24

1 Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.

1 यहोशू ने इस्राएल के सभी गोत्रों को शेकेम में जमा किया और इस्राएल के नेताओं, उनके प्रधानों, उनके प्रशासकों एवं अधिकारियों को बुलाया, और वे सभी परमेश्वर के सामने उपस्थित हुए.

2 And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.

2 सभी को यहोशू ने कहा, “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदेश यह है, ‘पहले तो तुम्हारे पूर्वज अब्राहाम तथा नाहोर के पिता तेराह, फरात नदी के पार रहा करते थे, वे दूसरे देवताओं की उपासना करते थे.

3 But I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I multiplied his descendants. I gave him Isaac,

3 तब मैंने उस नदी के पार से तुम्हारे पूर्वज अब्राहाम को पूरे कनान देश में घुमाया. मैंने उसके वंश को बढ़ाया, उसे पुत्र यित्सहाक दिया.

4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau Mount Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

4 फिर यित्सहाक को दो पुत्र दिए: याकोब तथा एसाव. एसाव को मैंने सेईर पर्वत दे दिया, परंतु याकोब तथा उनके पुत्र मिस्र देश चले गए.

5 Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.

5 “ ‘तब मैं, याहवेह ने मोशेह तथा अहरोन को उनके बीच भेजा. मैंने मिस्र देश पर विपत्तियां भेजी, फिर मैं तुम्हें वहां से निकाल लाया.

6 When I brought your fathers out of Egypt and you reached the Red Sea, the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.

6 बाद में मैंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को मिस्र देश से निकाला और तुम लोग सागर तट पर जा पहुंचे. मिस्रवासी भी रथों तथा घोड़ों को लेकर तुम्हारा पीछा करते हुए लाल सागर तक पहुंच गए.

7 So your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.

7 तुम्हारी पुकार सुनकर मैंने तुम्हारे एवं मिस्रियों के बीच में अंधकार कर दिया और समुद्र उनके ऊपर छा गया, और वे सब उसमें डूब गए. स्वयं तुमने अपने आंखों से यह सब देखा, कि मैंने मिस्र देश में क्या-क्या किया है. तुम निर्जन प्रदेश में बहुत समय तक रहे.

8 Later, I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should possess their land when I destroyed them before you.

8 “ ‘फिर मैं तुम्हें अमोरियों के देश में ले आया, जो यरदन के दूसरी ओर रहते थे. उन्होंने तुमसे युद्ध किया और मैंने उन्हें तुम्हारे अधीन कर दिया. तुमने उनके देश पर अधिकार कर लिया. तुम्हारे सामने मैंने उन्हें नाश कर दिया.

9 Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,

9 तब मोआब के राजा ज़ीप्पोर के पुत्र बालाक इस्राएल से युद्ध के लिए तैयार हुआ. उसने बेओर के पुत्र बिलआम को बुलाया कि वह तुम्हें शाप दे,

10 but I would not listen to Balaam. So he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.

10 किंतु मैंने बिलआम की एक न सुनी. वह तुम्हें आशीष पर आशीष देता गया. इस प्रकार मैंने तुम्हें उसके हाथों से बचा लिया.

11 After this, you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I delivered them into your hand.

11 “ ‘तुम लोगों ने यरदन नदी पार की और येरीख़ो जा पहुंचे. येरीख़ो के प्रधानों ने तुमसे युद्ध किया. इनके अलावा अमोरियों, परिज्ज़ियों, कनानी और हित्तियों, गिर्गाशियों, हिव्वियों तथा यबूसियों ने भी तुमसे युद्ध किया और सबको मैंने तुम्हारे अधीन कर दिया.

12 I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your own sword or bow.

12 तब मैंने तुम्हारे आगे-आगे बर्रे भेज दिए, उन्होंने अमोरियों के उन दो राजाओं को तुम्हारे सामने से भगा दिया. यह विजय न तो तुम्हारी तलवार की और न तुम्हारे धनुष की थी.

13 So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’

13 मैंने तुम्हें एक ऐसा देश दिया है, जिसके लिए तुमने कोई मेहनत नहीं की; ऐसे नगर, जिनको तुमने नहीं बनाया, जहां अब तुम रह रहे हो. तुम उन दाख की तथा जैतून की बगीचे के फलों को खा रहे हो, जिनको तुमने नहीं लगाया!’

14 Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

14 “अब याहवेह के प्रति आदर, भय और पूर्ण मन तथा सत्य से उनकी सेवा करो, उन देवताओं को छोड़ो, जिनकी उपासना तुम्हारे पूर्वज उस समय तक करते रहे, जब वे उस नदी के पार और मिस्र देश में रहते थे. आराधना केवल याहवेह ही की करो.

15 But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

15 यदि इस समय तुम्हें याहवेह की सेवा करना अच्छा नहीं लग रहा है, तो आज ही यह निर्णय कर लो कि किसकी सेवा करोगे तुम; उन देवताओं की, जिनकी उपासना तुम्हारे पूर्वज फरात नदी के पार किया करते थे या अमोरियों के उन देवताओं की, जिनके देश में तुम अब रह रहे हो. जहां तक मेरा और मेरे परिवार की बात है, हम तो याहवेह ही की सेवा-वन्दना करेंगे.”

16 The people replied, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!

16 यह सुन उपस्थित लोगों ने कहा, “ऐसा कभी न होगा कि हम याहवेह को छोड़, उन देवताओं की सेवा-वन्दना करें.

17 For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.

17 हमारे परमेश्वर याहवेह ही हैं, जिन्होंने हमें तथा हमारे पूर्वजों को मिस्र देश से बाहर निकाला है. वही हैं, जिन्होंने हमारे सामने अनोखे काम किए, तथा हमारी पूरी यात्रा में हम सबके साथ थे, जो हमें मार्ग में मिले थे, और हमारी रक्षा की.

18 And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!”

18 याहवेह ने ही हमारे बीच से अमोरियों को और सब जातियों को निकाले, तब तो हम भी याहवेह ही की सेवा-वन्दना करेंगे, क्योंकि वही हैं हमारा परमेश्वर.”

19 But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins.

19 तब यहोशू ने लोगों से कहा, “याहवेह की सेवा-वन्दना करने की ताकत तुम लोगों में नहीं है. वह पवित्र परमेश्वर हैं. वह ईर्ष्या रखनेवाला परमेश्वर हैं; वह न तो तुम्हारे अपराधों को और न ही तुम्हारे पापों को क्षमा करेंगे.

20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.”

20 अब यदि तुम याहवेह को छोड़कर उन देवताओं की उपासना करोगे, तो हालांकि अब तक तुम्हारा भला ही किया है, फिर भी वह तुम्हारे विरुद्ध हानि करेंगे और तुम नाश हो जाओगे.”

21 “No!” replied the people. “We will serve the LORD!”

21 प्रजा ने यहोशू से कहा, “ऐसा नहीं होगा. हम याहवेह ही की सेवा-वन्दना करेंगे.”

22 Then Joshua told them, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “We are witnesses!” they said.

22 तब यहोशू ने उनसे कहा, “अपने आपके गवाह तुम खुद हो, कि तुमने याहवेह के पक्ष में निर्णय लिया है कि तुम उन्हीं की सेवा-वन्दना करते रहोगे.” उन्होंने जवाब दिया, “हम गवाह हैं.”

23 “Now, therefore,” he said, “get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.”

23 इस पर यहोशू ने कहा, “तो अपने बीच से दूसरे देवताओं को दूर हटा दो और अपना हृदय याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर की ओर कर दो.”

24 So the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice.”

24 लोगों ने यहोशू को उत्तर दिया, “सेवा-आराधना तो हम याहवेह, हमारे परमेश्वर ही की करेंगे और हम उन्हीं के आदेशों का पालन भी करेंगे.”

25 On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he established for them a statute and ordinance.

25 यहोशू ने उस दिन लोगों के साथ पक्का वादा किया तथा शेकेम में उनको नियम एवं विधि बताई.

26 Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.

26 यहोशू ने वह सब परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था की पुस्तक में लिख दिया. फिर उन्होंने एक बड़ा पत्थर लेकर याहवेह के पवित्र स्थान के निकट, बांज वृक्ष के नीचे खड़ा कर दिया.

27 And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”

27 यहोशू ने सब लोगों से कहा, “देखो, यह पत्थर अब हमारे लिए गवाह होगा, क्योंकि इसने याहवेह द्वारा हमसे कही बातों को सुन लिया है. इसलिये अब यही तुम्हारा गवाह होगा, यदि तुम्हारा मन परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध हो जाएं.”

28 Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.

28 यह कहकर यहोशू ने लोगों को भेज दिया. और सभी अपने-अपने घर पर चले गए.

29 Some time later, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.

29 इसके बाद याहवेह के सेवक नून के पुत्र यहोशू की मृत्यु हो गई. इस समय उनकी आयु एक सौ दस वर्ष कि थी.

30 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

30 उन्होंने उन्हें तिमनथ-सेरह में, उन्हीं की भूमि पर दफना दिया. वह जगह एफ्राईम के पर्वतीय क्षेत्र में गाश पर्वत के उत्तर दिशा में है.

31 Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.

31 इस्राएल जन यहोशू तथा यहोशू के बाद पुरनियों के सारे जीवनकाल में याहवेह की सेवा और स्तुति करते रहे. ये उन सभी महान कामों को अनुभव किये थे, जो याहवेह द्वारा इस्राएल की भलाई के लिए किए गए थे.

32 And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.

32 योसेफ़ की वे अस्थियां, जो इस्राएल वंश मिस्र देश से अपने साथ ले आए थे, उन्होंने इन्हें शेकेम में गाड़ दिया. यह वह ज़मीन थी, जिसे याकोब ने शेकेम के पिता हामोर के पुत्रों से चांदी की एक सौ मुद्राएं देकर खरीदी थी. यह ज़मीन अब योसेफ़ वंश की मीरास हो गयी थी.

33 Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.

33 फिर अहरोन के पुत्र एलिएज़र की मृत्यु हो गई. उन्होंने उसे गिबियाह में गाड़ दिया. यह उसके पुत्र फिनिहास का नगर था, जो एफ्राईम के पर्वतीय प्रदेश में उसे मिला था.
