1 Corinthians 6

1 If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints!

1–2 Jos teillä on riita-asia keskenänne, miksi haastatte toisianne oikeuteen ettekä sovi asioistanne kristittyjen omassa joukossa? Ettekö tiedä, että me kristityt olemme kerran koko maailman tuomareita ja hallitsijoita? Miksi siis ette itse voi ratkaista pikkukiistojanne?

2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?

3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

3 Ettekö tiedä, että tuomitsemme vielä enkeleitäkin? Kyllä teidän pitäisi pystyä selvittämään keskinäiset riita-asianne.

4 So if you need to settle everyday matters, do you appoint as judges those of no standing in the church?

4 Miksi ihmeessä käännytte tuomareiden puoleen jotka eivät edes ole kristittyjä?

5 I say this to your shame. Is there really no one among you wise enough to arbitrate between his brothers?

5 Teidän olisi syytä hävetä. Eikö seurakunnassanne tosiaan ole ketään, joka kykenisi sovittelemaan riitojanne?

6 Instead, one brother goes to law against another, and this in front of unbelievers!

6 Nyt kristitty haastaa toisen kristityn oikeuteen ja syyttää häntä ei-uskovien edessä.

7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?

7 Tuollainen käräjöinti merkitsee teille kristittyinä jo sinänsä tappiota. Miksi ette ennemmin suostu kärsimään vääryyttä ja jättämään asiaanne sikseen? Herra saisi enemmän kunniaa, kun ette pitäisi kiinni oikeuksistanne.

8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, even against your own brothers!

8 Nyt te sen sijaan teette itse vääryyttä ja riistätte jopa muita uskovia.

9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts,

9–10 Ettekö tiedä, että ne, jotka tekevät väärin, eivät pääse Jumalan valtakuntaan? Älkää pettäkö itseänne. Niillä, jotka viettävät siveetöntä elämää – palvovat omia jumaliaan, syyllistyvät aviorikoksiin ja ajautuvat sukupuolielämässä luonnottomuuksiin – ei ole osuutta Jumalan valtakuntaan. Sinne eivät pääse myöskään varkaat, ahneet, juopot, juoruilijat eivätkä ne, jotka riistävät muita.

10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

11 Jotkut teistä olivat aikaisemmin sellaisia, mutta syntinne on nyt pesty pois ja teistä on tullut Jumalan omia: hän on hyväksynyt teidät Jeesuksen Kristuksen ja Pyhän Henkensä työn tähden.

12 “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.

12 Voin tehdä mitä tahansa, mitä Kristus ei ole kieltänyt, mutta kaikki ei ole minulle hyväksi. Pidättäydyn kaikesta, mikä voi saada minusta yliotteen, niin etten enää pääse siitä eroon vaikka tahtoisin.

13 “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

13 Ajatellaan esimerkiksi syömistä. Jumala on antanut meille ruokahalun ja vatsan, mutta se ei oikeuta meitä syömään yli tarpeen. Älkää kiinnittäkö syömiseen kohtuutonta huomiota, sillä jonakin päivänä Jumala tekee lopun sekä vatsasta että ruuasta. Meillä ei ole oikeutta tehdä syntiä sukupuolielämän alueella: siihen Herra ei ole ruumistamme tarkoittanut. Hän loi meidät itseään varten, ja hän itse haluaa myös hallita ruumistamme.

14 By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also.

14 Hän herättää sen kuolemasta samalla voimalla kuin hän herätti Jeesuksenkin.

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!

15 Ettekö käsitä, että ruumiinne todella on Kristuksen ruumiin jäsen? Kuinka voisin ottaa Kristuksen jäsenen ja yhdistää sen prostituoituun? En ikinä!

16 Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”

16 Ettekö tiedä, että jos mies on sellaisen naisen kanssa, niin he tulevat yhdeksi ruumiiksi? Jumala sanoo Raamatussa, että hänen näkökulmastaan nuo kaksi ovat silloin yhtä.

17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.

17 Mutta jos annatte itsenne Herralle, olette yhtä Kristuksen kanssa.

18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

18 Pysykää sen vuoksi erossa irrallisista sukupuolisuhteista. Muut synnit eivät vahingoita ruumistamme niin selvästi kuin ne.

19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

19 Ettekö vielä ole oppineet, että Pyhä Henki, jonka Jumalalta saitte, asuu juuri ruumiissanne? Ruumiinne ei siis kuulu teille itsellenne.

20 you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.

20 Jumala maksoi teistä kalliin hinnan. Eläkää sillä tavoin, että ruumiinnekin tuottaa kunniaa hänelle, joka on sen omistaja.
