1 Samuel 7

1 Then the men of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the LORD and took it into Abinadab’s house on the hill. And they consecrated his son Eleazar to guard the ark of the LORD.

1 तब किरयथ-यआरीम से कुछ लोग आए और याहवेह के संदूक को वहां से ले जाकर पर्वत पर बने अबीनादाब के घर में रख दिया. उन्होंने याहवेह के संदूक की देखरेख के लिए अबीनादाब के पुत्र एलिएज़र का अभिषेक किया.

2 And from that day a long time passed, twenty years in all, as the ark remained at Kiriath-jearim. And all the house of Israel mournfully sought the LORD.

2 लंबे समय तक लगभग बीस वर्ष तक, संदूक किरयथ-यआरीम में ही रहा. अब सारे इस्राएल राष्ट्र को याहवेह की चाह होने लगी थी.

3 Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and Ashtoreths among you, prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve Him only. And He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

3 शमुएल ने समस्त इस्राएली राष्ट्र को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, “यदि तुम हृदय की गहराई से याहवेह की ओर फिर रहे हो, तो अपने बीच से सारे पराए देवताओं तथा अश्तोरेथ की प्रतिमाओं को हटाकर दूर कर दो. अपना हृदय याहवेह को समर्पित कर सिर्फ उन्हीं की वंदना करते रहो. तब याहवेह तुम्हें फिलिस्तीनियों के सताने से मुक्त करेंगे.”

4 So the Israelites put away the Baals and Ashtoreths and served only the LORD.

4 तब इस्राएलियों ने अपने मध्य से सारे पराए देवताओं और अश्तोरेथ की मूर्तियों का त्याग कर दिया तथा वे सिर्फ याहवेह ही की वंदना करने लगे.

5 Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD on your behalf.”

5 तब शमुएल ने उन्हें आदेश दिया, “सारा इस्राएल मिज़पाह नामक स्थान पर एकत्र हो, कि मैं तुम्हारे लिए याहवेह से प्रार्थना करूं.”

6 When they had gathered at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the LORD. On that day they fasted, and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the LORD.” And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.

6 वे सभी मिज़पाह में इकट्ठा हो गए और उन्होंने जल निकाला और याहवेह के सामने उंडेल दिया. उस दिन उन्होंने उपवास किया और यह स्वीकार किया, “हमने याहवेह के विरुद्ध पाप किया है.” मिज़पाह ही वह स्थान था, जहां से शमुएल ने इस्राएल राष्ट्र के न्यायाध्यक्ष के पद पर काम करना शुरू किया.

7 When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, their rulers marched up toward Israel. And when the Israelites learned of this, they feared the Philistines

7 जब फिलिस्तीनियों को यह समाचार प्राप्‍त हुआ कि इस्राएली मिज़पाह क्षेत्र में एकत्र हो गए हैं, फिलिस्तीनी प्रधानों ने इस्राएल के विरुद्ध मोर्चा बांधा. जब इस्राएलियों को इसके विषय में सूचना प्राप्‍त हुई, वे फिलिस्तीनियों से डरने लगे.

8 and said to Samuel, “Do not stop crying out to the LORD our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”

8 उन्होंने शमुएल से आग्रह किया, “हमारी ओर से याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करना बंद न कीजिए, कि हमें फिलिस्तीनियों से सुरक्षा प्राप्‍त होती रहे.”

9 Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.

9 इस पर शमुएल ने एक दूध पीता मेमना लेकर उसे याहवेह के सामने अग्निबलि के रूप में अर्पण किया. तब शमुएल ने इस्राएल की ओर से याहवेह की दोहाई दी, और याहवेह ने उन्हें इसका प्रत्युत्तर दिया.

10 As the Philistines drew near to fight against Israel, Samuel was offering up the burnt offering. But that day the LORD thundered loudly against the Philistines and threw them into such confusion that they fled before Israel.

10 जब शमुएल यह अग्निबलि अर्पित कर ही रहे थे, फिलिस्तीनी इस्राएल पर हमला करने के लक्ष्य से निकट आ गए. मगर उस दिन याहवेह फिलिस्तीनियों पर बादल द्वारा ऐसे गरजे कि फिलिस्तीनी आतंक के कारण सम्भ्रमित हो गए. तब इस्राएलियों ने उन्हें वहीं हरा दिया.

11 Then the men of Israel charged out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth-car.

11 फिर इस्राएली मिज़पाह से बाहर निकल आए फिलिस्तीनियों को खदेड़ते हुए, उनका संहार करते हुए, बेथ-कार नामक स्थान के नीचे तक चले गए.

12 Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”

12 मिज़पाह तथा शेन नामक स्थानों के मध्य शमुएल ने इस घटना की स्मारक स्वरूप, एक शिला लेकर वहां प्रतिष्ठित कर उसे एबेन-एज़र नाम दिया; क्योंकि उन्होंने यह गवाह दिया, “अब तक याहवेह ने हमारी सहायता की है.”

13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped invading the territory of Israel. And the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

13 इस प्रकार फिलिस्तीनी हरा दिए गए. इसके बाद उन्होंने इस्राएल की सीमा पर हमला दोबारा नहीं किया. शमुएल के संपूर्ण जीवनकाल में फिलिस्तीनियों पर याहवेह का गुस्सा बना रहा.

14 The cities from Ekron to Gath, which the Philistines had taken, were restored to Israel, who also delivered the surrounding territory from the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between the Israelites and the Amorites.

14 एक्रोन से लेकर गाथ तक, वे नगर, जो फिलिस्तीनियों ने इस्राएल से छीन लिए थे, इस्राएल को लौटा दिए गए. स्वयं इस्राएल ने फिलिस्तीनियों द्वारा अधिकृत किए गए अपने क्षेत्र उनसे मुक्त करवा लिए. इस्राएल तथा अमोरियों के बीच भी शान्तिपूर्ण संबंधों की स्थापना हो गई.

15 So Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

15 शमुएल आजीवन इस्राएल के प्रशासक-न्यायध्यक्ष रहे.

16 Every year he would go on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal to Mizpah, judging Israel in all these places.

16 वर्ष-प्रतिवर्ष वह भ्रमण करते हुए बेथेल, गिलगाल तथा मिज़पाह ये तीन मुख्यालयों पर जाकर इस्राएल का न्याय करते थे.

17 Then he would return to Ramah because his home was there, and there he judged Israel and built an altar to the LORD.

17 फिर वह रामाह नगर को लौट जाते थे, क्योंकि उनका घर-परिवार यहीं था. वह इस्राएल का न्याय और शासन यहां से भी करते थे, साथ ही उन्होंने यहां याहवेह के लिए एक वेदी भी बनाई थी.
