2 Chronicles 17

1 Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.

1 Josafá, filho de Asa, foi o seu sucessor, e se preparou para a guerra contra Israel.

2 He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.

2 Ele colocou grupos de soldados em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, e guarnições na terra de Judá e nas cidades de Efraim que Asa, seu pai, havia conquistado.

3 Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,

3 O Senhor esteve com Josafá porque, nos seus primeiros anos, ele andou nos caminhos do seu antepassado Davi. Ele não adorou o deus Baal,

4 but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.

4 mas seguiu o Deus de seu pai e obedeceu aos seus mandamentos, e não seguiu as práticas de Israel.

5 So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.

5 Por isso, o Senhor fortaleceu a posição do reino de Josafá, e todo o povo de Judá lhe dava presentes, de maneira que se tornou muito rico e também muito popular.

6 And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.

6 Josafá era corajoso em seguir os caminhos do Senhor e ainda derrubou os altares dos deuses estranhos que havia nas montanhas e destruiu as imagens de Aserá.

7 In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,

7 No terceiro ano de seu reinado, ele enviou importantes oficiais do governo como Bene-Hail, Obadias, Zacarias, Natanael e Micaías para ensinarem nas cidades de Judá.

8 accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

8 Também seguiram os seguintes levitas: Semaías, Netanias, Zebadias, Asael, Semiramote, Jônatas, Adonias, Tobias e Tobe-Adonias e os sacerdotes Elisama e Jeorão.

9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.

9 Eles foram por todas as cidades de Judá, levando cópias do Livro da Lei do Senhor a fim de ensinarem as Escrituras ao povo.

10 And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.

10 Então o temor do Senhor caiu sobre todos os reinos vizinhos, de maneira que nenhum deles declarou guerra ao rei Josafá.

11 Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.

11 Alguns dos filisteus chegaram a levar presentes a Josafá, além de pagar uma taxa em prata todos os anos. Os árabes deram sete mil e setecentos carneiros e o mesmo número de bodes.

12 Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah

12 Dessa maneira, Josafá foi se tornando cada vez mais forte, e construiu fortalezas e cidades para depósitos em toda a terra de Judá,

13 and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.

13 onde guardava grande quantidade de mantimentos. Ele também tinha um exército valoroso em Jerusalém.

14 These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;

14 Esta é a lista dos oficiais, de acordo com os grupos de famílias: De Judá, líderes de mil: trezentos mil soldados de Judá estavam sob o comando de Adna.

15 next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;

15 Depois dele em comando vinha Joanã, com um exército de duzentos e oitenta mil homens.

16 and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.

16 Depois vinha Amasias, filho de Zicri, um homem totalmente dedicado a Deus, com duzentos mil soldados.

17 From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;

17 De Benjamim vieram duzentos mil homens armados com arcos e escudos, sob o comando de Eliada, um guerreiro valente.

18 and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.

18 Depois dele vinha Jozabade, com cento e oitenta mil homens treinados para a guerra.

19 These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

19 Esses eram os soldados que serviam o rei, fora aqueles que ele colocou nas cidades fortificadas em toda a terra de Judá.
