2 Peter 1

1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

1 Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, a todos vocês que por meio da justiça de nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo receberam a fé que é preciosa como a nossa!

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

2 Que a graça e a paz aumentem cada vez mais, pelo grande conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus Cristo, o nosso Senhor.

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

3 Porque, à medida que vocês o conhecerem melhor, ele lhes dará, por intermédio do seu grande poder, tudo quanto vocês necessitam para viverem uma vida cheia de piedade; ele nos chamou a sermos participantes da sua própria glória e virtude!

4 Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

4 E por esse mesmo grandioso poder ele nos concedeu todas as suas ricas e maravilhosas promessas, para nos salvar da imoralidade e dos desejos deste mundo, e fazer-nos participantes da natureza divina.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;

5 Por isso, vocês precisam acrescentar à sua fé a virtude; à virtude o conhecimento;

6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

6 ao conhecimento o domínio próprio; ao domínio próprio a perseverança; à perseverança a piedade;

7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

7 à piedade a amizade cristã; e à amizade cristã o amor.

8 For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

8 Quanto mais seguirem nesse caminho, tanto mais vocês ficarão fortes espiritualmente, e se tornarão frutíferos e úteis no pleno conhecimento do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

9 But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

9 Mas qualquer um que deixar de seguir estes complementos da fé enxerga só o que está perto, e se esquece de que Deus o libertou da velha vida de pecado.

10 Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,

10 Portanto, queridos irmãos, trabalhem com ardor para provar que vocês estão realmente entre aqueles que Deus chamou e escolheu, e assim vocês nunca abandonarão a fé.

11 and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

11 E Deus abrirá as portas do céu para que vocês entrem no Reino eterno do nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo.

12 Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.

12 Meu plano é continuar a relembrar-lhes estas coisas, embora vocês já as saibam e estejam realmente firmados na verdade!

13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,

13 Enquanto ainda estiver aqui na terra, no tabernáculo deste corpo, pretendo continuar lembrando-lhes destas coisas.

14 because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

14 O Senhor Jesus Cristo, porém, mostrou-me que os meus dias aqui na terra já estão contados e que em breve deixarei este tabernáculo.

15 And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.

15 Espero gravar estas coisas tão claramente em vocês que se lembrarão delas muito tempo depois da minha partida.

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

16 Porque nós não temos contado fábulas a vocês quando lhes explicamos o poder do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e da sua vinda. Nossos próprios olhos viram o esplendor da sua majestade,

17 For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

17 pois ele recebeu honra e glória da parte de Deus, o seu Pai, quando pela suprema glória lhe foi dirigida a voz dizendo: “Este é o meu Filho muito amado, em quem me agrado”.

18 And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

18 Nós mesmos ouvimos essa voz vinda dos céus quando estávamos com ele no monte sagrado.

19 We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

19 Portanto, nós vimos e tivemos a prova de que tudo quanto os profetas disseram cumpriu-se. Vocês farão bem em prestar toda a atenção a tudo o que eles escreveram, como luzes que brilham em lugares escuros até que o dia clareie e a estrela que anuncia uma nova manhã brilhe em seus corações.

20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.

20 Acima de tudo, saibam que nenhuma profecia da Escritura jamais foi inventada pelo próprio profeta.

21 For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

21 Porque jamais uma profecia veio da vontade humana. Foi o Espírito Santo quem lhes concedeu mensagens verdadeiras da parte de Deus.
