Amos 6

1 Woe to those at ease in Zion and those secure on Mount Samaria, the distinguished ones of the foremost nation, to whom the house of Israel comes.

1 Ai de vocês que vivem confortavelmente, cheios de luxo, em Sião e se sentem seguros no monte de Samaria; vocês homens famosos e populares, aos quais o povo de Israel recorre.

2 Cross over to Calneh and see; go from there to the great Hamath; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?

2 Vão a Calné e vejam o que aconteceu ali. Depois, visitem a grande Haná e desçam até Gate, na terra dos filisteus. Já foram melhores e maiores do que vocês, mas vejam o que lhes aconteceu!

3 You dismiss the day of calamity and bring near a reign of violence.

3 Vocês afastam qualquer pensamento do castigo que os espera, mas as suas obras acabam apressando o dia do Julgamento.

4 You lie on beds inlaid with ivory, and lounge upon your couches. You dine on lambs from the flock and calves from the stall.

4 Vocês se deitam em camas de marfim e se espreguiçam em seus leitos luxuosos. Comem a carne das ovelhas mais novas e dos novilhos especialmente escolhidos.

5 You improvise songs on the harp like David and invent your own musical instruments.

5 Vocês cantam preguiçosamente ao som da harpa e se divertem em ser músicos como o rei Davi.

6 You drink wine by the bowlful and anoint yourselves with the finest oils, but you fail to grieve over the ruin of Joseph.

6 Vocês bebem vinho à vontade e usam os perfumes mais caros sem dar a mínima importância a seus irmãos, que precisam de ajuda!

7 Therefore, you will now go into exile as the first of the captives, and your feasting and lounging will come to an end.

7 Por isso, vocês estarão entre os primeiros a ir para o exílio. De repente, a sua grande farra terá um fim!

8 The Lord GOD has sworn by Himself—the LORD, the God of Hosts, has declared: “I abhor Jacob’s pride and detest his citadels, so I will deliver up the city and everything in it.”

8 O Senhor, o Soberano, jurou pelo seu próprio nome. Assim declara o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos: “Detesto o orgulho e a glória falsa de Jacó. Odeio suas belas mansões. Entregarei esta cidade e tudo o que nela existe aos seus inimigos”.

9 And if there are ten men left in one house, they too will die.

9 Se sobrarem apenas dez homens numa casa, também serão destruídos.

10 And when the relative who is to burn the bodies picks them up to remove them from the house, he will call to one inside, “Is anyone else with you?” “None,” that person will answer. “Silence,” the relative will retort, “for the name of the LORD must not be invoked.”

10 Um parente será a única pessoa que restou para enterrar alguém, e quando estiver carregando o corpo para ser enterrado, perguntará ao único sobrevivente, que ficou dentro de casa: “Há mais alguém junto com você?” A resposta será: “Cale a boca! Não devemos nem mencionar o nome do Senhor”.

11 For the LORD gives a command: “The great house will be smashed to pieces, and the small house to rubble.”

11 Porque o Senhor ordenou isto: As casas, grandes e pequenas, serão despedaçadas.

12 “Do horses gallop on the cliffs? Does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

12 Acaso os cavalos podem correr sobre as rochas? Os bois podem arar o mar? Que pergunta estúpida; mas vocês fizeram uma estupidez ainda maior: transformaram o direito em veneno e a justiça em injustiça.

13 you who rejoice in Lo-debar and say, ‘Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?’

13 Vocês que se alegram pela conquista de Lo-Debar e se gabam, dizendo: “Pela nossa própria força nos apoderaremos de Carnaim”, ouçam isto:

14 For behold, I will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD, the God of Hosts, “and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of the Arabah.”

14 “Ó nação de Israel, eu vou trazer uma nação para atacá-los; essa nação os apertará desde a fronteira norte até a extremidade sul, desde Lebo-Hamate até o córrego de Arabá”, diz o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos.
