Deuteronomy 13

1 If a prophet or dreamer of dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,

1 “Se aparecer entre vocês algum profeta ou alguém que diga que é capaz de fazer previsões por meio de sonhos ou de um sinal miraculoso ou um prodígio,

2 and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,”

2 e se o sinal ou as coisas que ele previr de fato acontecerem, mas disser: ‘Venham! Vamos adorar e servir aos deuses que vocês não conhecem’,

3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

3 não deem ouvidos às palavras daquele profeta ou sonhador. Pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, estará provando vocês para ver se de fato amam o Senhor, o seu Deus, de todo o coração e de toda a alma.

4 You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.

4 Sigam somente o Senhor, o seu Deus, temam somente a ele. Guardem os seus mandamentos, deem ouvidos somente ao que ele diz e não se afastem dele.

5 Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must purge the evil from among you.

5 O profeta que queira fazer com que vocês deixem os caminhos do Senhor terá de ser morto, pois pregou rebelião contra o Senhor, o seu Deus, que os tirou do Egito e os resgatou da escravidão; esse profeta tentou afastá-los do caminho que o Senhor, o seu Deus, lhes ordenou que seguissem. O mal será eliminado do meio de vocês.

6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,

6 “Se o seu próprio irmão ou irmã, o seu filho ou filha, a bem-amada esposa ou o seu amigo mais íntimo, lhe falar em segredo, sugerindo: ‘Vamos prestar culto a outros deuses, deuses que você nem seus antepassados conheceram,

7 the gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, whether from one end of the earth or the other),

7 deuses dos povos vizinhos, ou de povos distantes, de um ao outro extremo da terra’,

8 you must not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity, and do not spare him or shield him.

8 não pare para ouvir, nem se deixe convencer. Não tenha pena dele. Não poupe a sua vida nem o proteja.

9 Instead, you must surely kill him. Your hand must be the first against him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.

9 Mate o infiel. Você deve ser o primeiro a levantar a sua mão contra essa pessoa para matá-la. Depois todo o povo o ajudará.

10 Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

10 Essa pessoa terá de ser apedrejada até a morte, porque tentou afastar você do Senhor, o seu Deus, que tirou Israel do Egito, daquele lugar de escravidão.

11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.

11 E todo o Israel tomará conhecimento do pecado cometido; todos temerão, e ninguém repetirá essa maldade.

12 If, regarding one of the cities the LORD your God is giving you to inhabit, you hear it said

12 “Se alguma vez vocês ouvirem dizer que numa das cidades recebidas pelo Senhor, o seu Deus, para sua moradia,

13 that wicked men have arisen from among you and have led the people of their city astray, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” (which you have not known),

13 homens malignos fizeram sugestões pecaminosas e desviaram os seus habitantes, dizendo: ‘Vamos e sirvamos a outros deuses’, deuses que vocês não conhecem,

14 then you must inquire, investigate, and interrogate thoroughly. And if it is established with certainty that this abomination has been committed among you,

14 vocês deverão verificar e fazer uma investigação cuidadosa para ver se isso é verdade. Se, de fato, for verdade e ficar comprovado que se praticou essa coisa horrível entre vocês,

15 you must surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword. Devote to destruction all its people and livestock.

15 certamente matarão com a espada todos os moradores daquela cidade. Toda ela será destruída completamente com tudo o que nela houver, tanto os seus moradores quanto os seus animais.

16 And you are to gather all its plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a mound of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.

16 Depois, ajuntem todos os bens deles no meio da praça principal e queimem a cidade com todas as posses deles. Isso será como oferta ao Senhor, o seu Deus. A cidade permanecerá em ruínas para sempre e nunca mais voltará a ser reconstruída.

17 Nothing devoted to destruction shall cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as He swore to your fathers,

17 Além disso, ninguém guardará nada dos bens que foram condenados para a destruição, para que o Senhor abrande a sua ira e trate vocês com bondade e compaixão, e multiplique o seu povo, como prometeu sob juramento aos nossos antepassados.

18 because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments I am giving you today and doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD your God.

18 Isso ocorrerá somente se obedecerem ao Senhor, o seu Deus, guardando todos os mandamentos que estou lhes dando, e fazendo o que é justo ao olhos do Senhor, o seu Deus.
