Deuteronomy 7

1 When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—

1 “Quando o Senhor, o seu Deus, introduzir vocês na terra da qual tomarão posse, ele expulsará de diante de vocês muitas nações: os heteus, os girgaseus, os amorreus, os cananeus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus. Estas sete nações são maiores e mais fortes do que Israel.

2 and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you to defeat them, then you must devote them to complete destruction. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.

2 E quando o Senhor, o seu Deus, entregar essas nações nas suas mãos, para serem derrotadas, então destruam-nas totalmente. Não façam nenhuma aliança com elas, nem tenham pena delas.

3 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

3 Não se casem com as pessoas dessas nações. Não deixem seus filhos casarem com as filhas deles, nem as suas filhas casarem com os filhos deles,

4 because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.

4 pois isso certamente afastaria os jovens de Israel de mim, eles serviriam a outros deuses, e a ira do Senhor viria sobre vocês, e ele rapidamente destruiria vocês.

5 Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their idols in the fire.

5 Assim vocês tratarão essas nações: derrubem os seus altares, despedacem as suas colunas, cortem os seus postes-ídolos e queimem suas imagens de escultura.

6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all peoples on the face of the earth.

6 Pois vocês são um povo santo, dedicado ao Senhor, o seu Deus. O Senhor, o seu Deus, os escolheu dentre todos os povos da terra para serem o seu próprio povo, propriedade especial dele.

7 The LORD did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.

7 “O Senhor não dedicou seu amor a vocês, nem os escolheu por serem mais numerosos do que os outros povos, pois, na verdade, vocês eram o menor de todos os povos.

8 But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

8 Mas foi porque o Senhor os amou e para cumprir a palavra que deu a seus antepassados. Por isso, ele tirou vocês com grande poder e os resgatou da escravidão do Egito, do poder do faraó, rei do Egito.

9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His covenant of loving devotion for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

9 Procurem entender, portanto, que o Senhor, o seu Deus, é Deus — Deus fiel, que por mil gerações mantém a aliança e a misericórdia com os que o amam e obedecem aos seus mandamentos.

10 But those who hate Him He repays to their faces with destruction; He will not hesitate to repay to his face the one who hates Him.

10 Mas àqueles que o odeiam, ele retribuirá diretamente com castigo; ele não demorará com a retribuição para com aquele que o odeia.

11 So keep the commandments and statutes and ordinances that I am giving you to follow this day.

11 Portanto, obedeçam às leis, aos mandamentos e às ordenanças que hoje dou a vocês.

12 If you listen to these ordinances and keep them carefully, then the LORD your God will keep His covenant and the loving devotion that He swore to your fathers.

12 “Se vocês derem atenção a essas leis e as colocarem em prática, então o Senhor, o seu Deus, manterá a sua aliança e a misericórdia prometidas, sob juramento, aos seus antepassados.

13 He will love you and bless you and multiply you. He will bless the fruit of your womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil, the young of your herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that He swore to your fathers to give you.

13 Ele continuará amando e abençoando vocês e fará que vocês se multipliquem. Ele abençoará os seus filhos e os frutos da sua terra. Israel terá grande produção de cereais, de uvas e de azeite, e muitas crias de gado e de ovelhas na terra que o Senhor prometeu aos seus antepassados que daria a vocês.

14 You will be blessed above all peoples; among you there will be no barren man or woman or livestock.

14 Vocês serão mais abençoados do que todos os povos da terra. Entre os israelitas não haverá estéril, nem homem, nem mulher, nem mesmo entre os seus animais.

15 And the LORD will remove from you all sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will inflict them on all who hate you.

15 E o Senhor afastará para longe de vocês toda enfermidade, e não deixará que sofram as doenças terríveis que conheceram no Egito; antes, dará aquelas doenças a todos os seus inimigos.

16 You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God will deliver to you. Do not look on them with pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a snare to you.

16 Destruam todos os povos que o Senhor, o seu Deus, entregar a vocês. Não tenham pena deles, e não prestem culto aos seus deuses, porque isso seria uma armadilha para Israel!

17 You may say in your heart, “These nations are greater than we are; how can we drive them out?”

17 “Talvez vocês fiquem pensando: ‘Como poderemos expulsar essas nações? Elas são muito mais fortes do que nós’.

18 But do not be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt:

18 Não tenham medo delas! Basta lembrar o que o Senhor, o seu Deus, fez ao faraó e a todos os egípcios.

19 the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.

19 Vocês viram com os seus próprios olhos as grandes provas, os sinais miraculosos e as maravilhas, a mão poderosa e o braço forte com que o Senhor, o seu Deus, os tirou de lá. Pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, usará o mesmo poder contra os povos que agora vocês temem.

20 Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet against them until even the survivors hiding from you have perished.

20 Além disso, o Senhor, o seu Deus, mandará entre eles vespas até destruir o restante deles, os que se esconderem em esconderijos.

21 Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.

21 Não fiquem com medo diante deles, porque o Senhor, o seu Deus, que está no meio de vocês, é Deus grande e temível.

22 The LORD your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be enabled to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.

22 O Senhor, o seu Deus, expulsará essas nações, pouco a pouco. Não fará isso de uma vez, para que os animais selvagens não se multipliquem e se tornem perigosos.

23 But the LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.

23 Mas o Senhor, o seu Deus, as entregará a vocês, lançando sobre elas grande perturbação, até que sejam destruídas.

24 He will hand their kings over to you, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will annihilate them.

24 Ele também entregará a vocês os reis daqueles povos, para que Israel apague o nome deles de debaixo do céu. Ninguém poderá oferecer resistência a vocês, até que os tenham destruído.

25 You must burn up the images of their gods; do not covet the silver and gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it; for it is detestable to the LORD your God.

25 Vocês queimarão as imagens de escultura desses povos, e não cobicem a prata e o ouro que as revestem. Para o Senhor, o seu Deus, isso é detestável.

26 And you must not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. You are to utterly detest and abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.

26 Não levem coisa alguma que seja detestável para dentro de casa, para que vocês não sejam amaldiçoados por causa dessas imagens. Considerem tudo isso detestável e rejeitem-nas completamente, pois elas são amaldiçoadas.
