Esther 5

1 On the third day, Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.

1 Três dias depois, Ester vestiu seus vestidos reais e entrou no pátio interior do palácio do rei, que ficava bem em frente ao salão real. O rei estava sentado no trono real.

2 As soon as the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she found favor in his sight. The king extended the gold scepter in his hand toward Esther, and she approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

2 Quando ele viu a rainha Ester ali no pátio, teve boa vontade para com ela, estendeu o cetro de ouro que tinha na mão, e mandou que ela se aproximasse. Ester se aproximou e com a mão tocou a ponta do cetro.

3 “What is it, Queen Esther?” the king inquired. “What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given to you.”

3 Então o rei perguntou a ela: “O que você deseja, rainha Ester? Qual é o seu pedido? Eu atenderei mesmo que peça a metade do meu reino!”

4 “If it pleases the king,” Esther replied, “may the king and Haman come today to the banquet I have prepared for the king.”

4 E Ester respondeu: “Se for do agrado do rei, quero que o rei e Hamã venham hoje a um banquete que preparei”.

5 “Hurry,” commanded the king, “and bring Haman, so we can do as Esther has requested.” So the king and Haman went to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

5 O rei ordenou: “Digam a Hamã que venha depressa, para que aceitemos o convite de Ester!” Então o rei e Hamã foram ao banquete que Ester havia preparado.

6 And as they drank their wine, the king said to Esther, “What is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be fulfilled.”

6 Enquanto serviam o vinho, o rei disse a Ester: “Agora me diga o que é que você deseja, e eu mandarei fazer a sua vontade. Darei a você mesmo que seja a metade do meu reino!”

7 Esther replied, “This is my petition and my request:

7 Ester respondeu: “Este é o meu pedido e o meu maior desejo:

8 If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, may the king and Haman come tomorrow to the banquet I will prepare for them. Then I will answer the king’s question.”

8 Se eu achei favor perante o rei, e se for do seu agrado atender ao meu pedido, venha amanhã outra vez e traga Hamã ao banquete que vou oferecer. E amanhã falarei ao rei do que se trata”.

9 That day Haman went out full of joy and glad of heart. At the king’s gate, however, he saw Mordecai, who did not rise or tremble in fear at his presence. And Haman was filled with rage toward Mordecai.

9 Naquele dia Hamã saiu de lá muito feliz e contente! Mas quando viu Mordecai ali na porta, e que ele não se levantou nem mostrou respeito diante dele, ficou furioso.

10 Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home. And calling for his friends and his wife Zeresh,

10 No entanto, Hamã procurou não dar importância ao fato e foi para casa. Ele mandou chamar seus amigos, e também sua mulher Zeres,

11 Haman recounted to them his glorious wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored and promoted him over the other officials and servants.

11 e falou com eles a respeito da riqueza que possuía, dos muitos filhos que tinha, das promoções que o rei lhe havia concedido, e como era agora o homem mais importante do reino.

12 “What is more,” Haman added, “Queen Esther invited no one but me to join the king at the banquet she prepared, and I am invited back tomorrow along with the king.

12 Finalmente, anunciou com muito orgulho: “Além disso a rainha Ester convidou somente o rei e a mim para o banquete que ela ofereceu; e estamos convidados para outro banquete amanhã!”

13 Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

13 Depois ele disse mais estas palavras: “Porém, tudo isto não me dará satisfação, enquanto eu vir aquele judeu Mordecai sentado bem em frente ao portão do palácio real”.

14 His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a gallows fifty cubits high, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.” The advice pleased Haman, and he had the gallows constructed.

14 Então Zeres, sua mulher, e todos os seus amigos disseram a Hamã: “Mande fazer uma forca de cerca de vinte metros de altura, e logo pela manhã peça ao rei que dê a você licença para enforcar Mordecai. Depois disso você poderá ir ao banquete sossegado com o rei”. Hamã gostou muito desta ideia e mandou fazer a forca.
