Hosea 12

1 Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; he multiplies lies and violence; he makes a covenant with Assyria and sends olive oil to Egypt.

1 Israel está correndo atrás do vento, está alimentando um redemoinho. Os israelitas estão brincando com fogo! Eles mandam azeite de presente ao Egito e fazem tratados com a Assíria para conseguir ajuda.

2 The LORD has a charge to bring against Judah. He will punish Jacob according to his ways and repay him according to his deeds.

2 Mas o Senhor também tem uma acusação contra Judá. Judá também será castigada com justiça por causa de seus maus caminhos.

3 In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel, and in his vigor he wrestled with God.

3 Quando Jacó nasceu, lutou com seu irmão. Quando já era homem feito, chegou a lutar com Deus.

4 Yes, he struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor; he found Him at Bethel and spoke with Him there—

4 Sim, lutou com o Anjo e levou vantagem. Chorou e implorou uma bênção para si. Ele se encontrou com Deus, frente a frente, em Betel. Lá Deus falou a Jacó.

5 the LORD God of Hosts, the LORD is His name of renown.

5 Sim, o próprio Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos, o Senhor é o seu nome.

6 But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and always wait on your God.

6 Oh, voltem-se para o seu Deus! Pratiquem os princípios da lealdade e da justiça e confiem sempre em Deus!

7 A merchant loves to defraud with dishonest scales in his hands.

7 Mas isso não acontece. O meu povo se parece com os descendentes de Canaã, comerciantes desonestos, que usam balanças falsas. Eles amam o roubo e a mentira.

8 And Ephraim boasts: “How rich I have become! I have found wealth for myself. In all my labors, they can find in me no iniquity that is sinful.”

8 Israel, cheio de si, afirma: “Sou muito rico! E consegui tudo isso sozinho!” E ninguém pode nos acusar de termos ajuntado a nossa riqueza por meio de crime ou pecado.

9 But I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.

9 “Eu sou o mesmo Senhor, o seu Deus, que tirou os israelitas do Egito. Vou fazer vocês morarem em cabanas novamente, como faziam quando eu me encontrei com vocês no deserto.

10 I spoke through the prophets and multiplied their visions; I gave parables through the prophets.

10 Mandei os meus profetas para avisá-los com muitas visões, sonhos e parábolas”.

11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? They will surely come to nothing. Do they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal? Indeed, their altars will be heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.

11 Apesar disso, os pecados de Gilgal continuam crescendo. Filas e filas de altares, como valetas num campo pronto para a plantação, onde fazem sacrifícios aos seus deuses. E Gileade também está cheia de gente que não vale nada, que vive adorando ídolos.

12 Jacob fled to the land of Aram and Israel worked for a wife—for a wife he tended sheep.

12 Jacó fugiu para a Síria e lá trabalhou para obter sua esposa, tomando conta de ovelhas.

13 But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

13 Depois disso, o Senhor tirou o seu povo do Egito por meio de um profeta, que guiou e protegeu Israel.

14 Ephraim has provoked bitter anger, so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt upon him and repay him for his contempt.

14 Mas Israel provocou terrivelmente a ira do Senhor. Por isso, ele fará com que paguem pelos crimes que cometeram e os castigará por causa dos seus pecados.
