Hosea 8

1 Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms over the house of the LORD, because the people have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.

1 “Toquem a trombeta! Os inimigos estão chegando! Como uma águia, os inimigos atacam o povo de Deus, porque eles quebraram a aliança que fizeram comigo e desobedeceram às minhas leis.

2 Israel cries out to Me, “O our God, we know You!”

2 “Agora Israel clama a mim, pedindo socorro: ‘Ajude-nos, pois o Senhor é o nosso Deus!’

3 But Israel has rejected good; an enemy will pursue him.

3 Mas já é tarde demais! Israel, cheio de orgulho, desperdiçou suas oportunidades, e agora seus inimigos o perseguirão.

4 They set up kings, but not by Me. They make princes, but without My approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.

4 Os israelitas escolheram reis e príncipes sem a minha ordem. Com as próprias mãos fizeram imagens de ouro e de prata e as adoraram; por isso, não merecem a minha ajuda.

5 He has rejected your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?

5 “Ó Samaria, lance fora esse bezerro — esse ídolo que você criou! A minha ira se acende contra você. Quanto tempo vai passar até aparecer um homem puro entre os seus habitantes?

6 For this thing is from Israel—a craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to pieces, that calf of Samaria.

6 O bezerro vem de Israel. Este bezerro que vocês adoram foi feito por homens comuns. Esse bezerro não é Deus! Por isso, ele vai ser despedaçado!

7 For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. There is no standing grain; what sprouts fails to yield flour. Even if it should produce, the foreigners would swallow it up.

7 “Os israelitas semeiam vento e colhem tempestade! Não vai haver colheita. As espigas murcharão e morrerão, sem dar o alimento; se produzirem alguma coisa, os estrangeiros o devorarão!

8 Israel is swallowed up! Now they are among the nations like a worthless vessel.

8 “Israel está destruído. Seus pedaços estão espalhados entre as nações, como um vaso quebrado.

9 For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey on its own. Ephraim has hired lovers.

9 Israel é como um jumento selvagem que anda perdido pelas montanhas. Eles foram pedir ajuda para a Assíria e se venderam para os seus amantes.

10 Though they hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of princes.

10 “Embora tenham se vendido às nações, agora os ajuntarei. Mas eu vou castigar os israelitas e levá-los para o exílio, onde, por algum tempo, sofrerão opressão de um poderoso rei.

11 Though Ephraim multiplied the altars for sin, they became his altars for sinning.

11 “O povo de Israel construiu muitos altares, mas não são altares para me adorar! São altares do pecado!

12 Though I wrote for them the great things of My law, they regarded them as something strange.

12 Mesmo que eu desse aos israelitas milhares de leis, eles diriam: ‘Isso não é para nós! As leis são para outras nações’.

13 Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.

13 Israel ama fazer os rituais dos sacrifícios e comer carne, mas o Senhor não se agrada deles! Por isso, vou pedir conta dos pecados que eles cometem e vou castigá-los: eles voltarão ao Egito.

14 Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities. But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will consume their citadels.

14 “Israel construiu grandes palácios. Judá construiu fortalezas para defender suas cidades. Mas eles se esqueceram do seu Criador! Por isso vou mandar fogo contra os palácios e incendiar as fortalezas”.
