Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the commanders of the forces, along with Johanan son of Kareah, Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, approached

1 तब सारी सेना के सेनापति, कोरियाह का पुत्र योहानन, होशाइयाह का पुत्र येत्सानियाह, तथा प्रजा के साधारण एवं विशिष्ट सभी लोग भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह से भेंट करने आ गए

2 Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you can see with your own eyes.

2 उन्होंने येरेमियाह भविष्यद्वक्ता से आग्रह किया, “हमारा आपसे निवेदन है, कृपया, याहवेह, अपने परमेश्वर से हमारे लिए, अर्थात् उन बचे हुए लोगों के लिए बिनती कीजिए. क्योंकि बहुसंख्यकों में से अब हम मात्र अल्प ही रह गए हैं, यह तो आप स्वयं देख ही रहे हैं.

3 Pray that the LORD your God will tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do.”

3 आप प्रार्थना कीजिए, कि याहवेह, आपके परमेश्वर हम पर यह प्रकट कर दें, कि अब हमारा क्या करना उपयुक्त होगा तथा हमारा कहां जाना सार्थक होगा.”

4 “I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers. I will not withhold a word from you.”

4 भविष्यद्वक्ता येरेमियाह ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “मैंने तुम्हारा प्रस्ताव सुन लिया है. अब देखो, तुम्हारे अनुरोध के अनुसार मैं याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करूंगा और जो उत्तर मुझे याहवेह की ओर से प्राप्‍त होगा, वह संपूर्ण संदेश मैं तुम पर प्रकट कर दूंगा और उस संदेश का एक भी शब्द मैं तुमसे न छिपाऊंगा.”

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act upon every word that the LORD your God sends you to tell us.

5 यह सुन उन्होंने येरेमियाह को उत्तर दिया, “याहवेह ही हमारे लिए सत्य एवं विश्वसनीय गवाह हों, यदि हम उस संदेश के अनुरूप पूर्णतः आचरण न करें, जो याहवेह आपके परमेश्वर आपके द्वारा हमें प्रगट करेंगे.

6 Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God!”

6 वह संदेश चाहे हमारे लिए सुखद हो अथवा दुखद, हम याहवेह, हमारे परमेश्वर के संदेश को सुनेंगे, जिनके समक्ष जाने का हम आपसे अनुरोध कर रहे हैं, क्योंकि जब हम याहवेह, हमारे परमेश्वर के आदेश का पालन करें, तब हमारा कल्याण हो.”

7 After ten days the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah,

7 दस दिन समाप्‍त होते-होते येरेमियाह को याहवेह का संदेश प्राप्‍त हुआ.

8 and he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

8 उन्होंने कोरियाह के पुत्र योहानन को, उन सारे सेनापतियों को भी, जो उसके साथ थे तथा सारे साधारण एवं विशिष्ट लोगों की सभा आमंत्रित की.

9 Jeremiah told them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your petition:

9 और उन्हें संबोधित कर कहा, “याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदेश यह है, उन्हीं याहवेह का, जिनके समक्ष तुमने मुझे अपना निवेदन प्रस्तुत करने का दायित्व सौंपा था:

10 ‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I will relent of the disaster I have brought upon you.

10 ‘यदि तुम वास्तव में इस देश में निवास करते रहो, तब मैं तुम्हें समृद्धि प्रदान करूंगा, तुम्हें नष्ट न करूंगा; मैं तुम्हें यहां रोपित करूंगा, अलग नहीं; क्योंकि मैं तुम पर प्रभावी की गई विपत्तियों के विषय में पछताऊंगा.

11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear; do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you to save you and deliver you from him.

11 बाबेल के राजा से भयभीत न होना, जिससे तुम इस समय भयभीत हो रहे हो. मत हो उससे भयभीत, यह याहवेह की वाणी है, क्योंकि तुम्हारी सुरक्षा के निमित्त मैं तुम्हारे साथ हूं मैं तुम्हें उसकी अधीनता से मुक्त करूंगा.

12 And I will show you compassion, and he will have compassion on you and restore you to your own land.’

12 मैं तुम्हें अनुकम्पा का अनुदान दूंगा कि वह तुम पर अनुकम्पा करे और तुम्हें तुम्हारी मातृभूमि पर लौटा दे.’

13 But if you say, ‘We will not stay in this land,’ and you thus disobey the voice of the LORD your God,

13 “किंतु यदि तुम कहो, ‘हम इस देश में निवास नहीं करेंगे,’ अर्थात् तुम याहवेह, अपने परमेश्वर के आदेश का अनुकरण करना अस्वीकार कर दो,

14 and if you say, ‘No, but we will go to the land of Egypt and live there, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the ram’s horn or hunger for bread,’

14 और यह कहो, ‘नहीं, हम तो मिस्र देश जाएंगे, जहां न तो युद्ध की स्थिति होगी, जहां न नरसिंगा का युद्धनाद सुनना पड़ेगा और न ही जहां भोजन का अभाव रहेगा. हम वहीं निवास करेंगे,’

15 then hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah! This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and reside there,

15 तब यदि स्थिति यह है, तो यहूदिया के बचे हुए लोगो, याहवेह का यह संदेश सुन लो; सेनाओं के याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर की वाणी यह है: ‘यदि तुमने मिस्र देश में प्रवेश करने तथा वहां बस जाने का निश्चय कर ही लिया है,

16 then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you dread will follow on your heels into Egypt, and you will die there.

16 तब तो वह तलवार जिससे तुम आतंकित हो, तुम्हें वहां मिस्र देश में जा पकड़ेगी, वह अकाल जिसका तुम्हें डर है, वह तुम्हारे पीछे-पीछे मिस्र देश में जा पहुंचेगा और वहां तुम्हारी मृत्यु हो जाएगी.

17 So all who resolve to go to Egypt to reside there will die by sword and famine and plague. Not one of them will survive or escape the disaster I will bring upon them.’

17 तब वे सभी, जिन्होंने मिस्र में जाकर बस जाने का निश्चय कर लिया है, वे वहां जाकर तलवार, लड़ाई तथा महामारी को ग्रसित हो ही जाएंगे, और हां, वहां उस विपत्ति से, जो मैं उन पर डालने पर हूं, न तो कोई उत्तरजीवी शेष रहेगा और न ही कोई शरणार्थी.’

18 For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and wrath were poured out on the residents of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of cursing and horror, of vilification and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’

18 क्योंकि इस्राएल के परमेश्वर, सेनाओं के याहवेह की वाणी यह है: ‘जिस प्रकार मेरा क्रोध एवं आक्रोश येरूशलेम वासियों पर उंडेला जा चुका है, उसी प्रकार मेरा कोप तुम पर उस अवसर पर उंडेला जाएगा, जब तुम मिस्र देश में प्रवेश करोगे. तब तुम शाप, आतंक के प्रतिरूप, अमंगल तथा उपहास का विषय होकर रह जाओगे; इसके बाद तुम इस स्थान को कभी भी देख न सकोगे.’

19 The LORD has told you, O remnant of Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ Know for sure that I have warned you today!

19 “यहूदिया के बचे हुए लोगो, याहवेह ने तुमसे बात की है, ‘मत जाओ मिस्र देश.’ स्पष्टतः यह समझ लो, कि आज मैंने तुम्हें यह चेतावनी दी है

20 For you have deceived yourselves by sending me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray to the LORD our God on our behalf, and as for all that the LORD our God says, tell it to us and we will do it.’

20 छल तो तुमने स्वयं से किया है, क्योंकि स्वयं तुमने ही याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर से बात करने का यह दायित्व मुझे सौंपा था, ‘याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना कीजिए तथा जो कुछ याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर कहें, वह हमें बता दीजिए, कि हम वैसा ही करें.’

21 For I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in all He has sent me to tell you.

21 यही मैंने आज तुम्हें बता दिया है, किंतु तुमने याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर के आदेश का पालन नहीं किया है, उसी को, जिसे तुम्हें बता देने के लिए मुझे याहवेह ने भेजा है.

22 Now therefore, know for sure that by sword and famine and plague you will die in the place where you desire to go to reside.”

22 इसलिये अब तुम्हारा यह स्पष्टतः समझ लेना उपयुक्त होगा, कि तुम जिस स्थान पर जाने की अभिलाषा कर रहे हो, तुम्हारी मृत्यु वहीं तलवार, अकाल तथा महामारी से ही होनी है.”
