Jeremiah 47

1 This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet about the Philistines before Pharaoh struck down Gaza.

1 Esta é a mensagem que o Senhor deu a Jeremias sobre os filisteus, antes de o faraó atacar e conquistar a cidade de Gaza.

2 This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will wail

2 Assim diz o Senhor: “Uma enchente está vindo do norte para inundar a terra dos filisteus; destruirá as cidades e os campos, inundará esta terra e tudo o que nela existe, as cidades e os seus moradores. Eles vão gritar de medo, todos os filisteus vão gritar de dor

3 at the sound of the galloping hooves of stallions, the rumbling of chariots, and the clatter of their wheels. The fathers will not turn back for their sons; their hands will hang limp.

3 quando ouvirem o barulho dos cavalos e carros de guerra. Os pais fogem, dominados pelo medo, e abandonam seus filhos à própria sorte, porque os seus braços estarão fracos, caídos.

4 For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining ally. Indeed, the LORD is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.

4 Porque chegou a hora da destruição para todos os filisteus e seus aliados em Tiro e Sidom. O Senhor mesmo destruirá os filisteus, o remanescente da ilha de Caftor, no meio do grande Mar.

5 The people of Gaza will shave their heads in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourself?

5 As cidades de Gaza e Ascalom estão caladas; as ruínas serão espalhadas até não ficar pedra sobre pedra. E vocês, remanescentes da planície, vão chorar e se lamentar profundamente!

6 ‘Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still!’

6 “ ‘Ah, espada do Senhor, quando você vai descansar? Volte para a sua bainha; descanse e fique quieta’.

7 How can it rest when the LORD has commanded it? He has appointed it against Ashkelon and the shore of its coastland.”

7 Mas como poderia ela ficar quieta? Foi o Senhor quem lhe deu a ordem! Ele ordena a destruição de Ascalom e das outras cidades do litoral”.
