Joshua 23

1 A long time after the LORD had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them, when Joshua was old and well along in years,

1 Muito tempo depois, havendo o Senhor dado sucesso ao povo de Israel contra os seus inimigos, dando descanso contra todos os inimigos ao seu redor, e sendo Josué já bastante idoso,

2 he summoned all Israel, including its elders, leaders, judges, and officers. “I am old and well along in years,” he said,

2 este convocou todo o Israel, os seus líderes, os chefes, os juízes e os oficiais, e falou a eles: “Estou velho,

3 “and you have seen everything that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, because it was the LORD your God who fought for you.

3 e vocês viram tudo o que o Senhor, o seu Deus, fez com todas essas nações por amor a vocês! Foi o Senhor mesmo que lutou contra os inimigos de vocês!

4 See, I have allotted as an inheritance to your tribes these remaining nations, including all the nations I have already cut off, from the Jordan westward to the Great Sea.

4 Eu reparti entre vocês por sorteio as terras das nações que ainda não foram conquistadas, como também as terras das nações que já destruímos entre o rio Jordão e o mar Mediterrâneo, a oeste.

5 The LORD your God will push them out of your way and drive them out before you, so that you can take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.

5 Pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, expulsará todos esses povos da presença de vocês, e vocês viverão lá, como ele prometeu.

6 Be very strong, then, so that you can keep and obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, not turning aside from it to the right or to the left.

6 “Mas tenham cuidado para seguir todas as instruções escritas no Livro da Lei de Moisés. Não se desviem nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.

7 So you are not to associate with these nations that remain among you. You must not call on the names of their gods or swear by them, and you must not serve them or bow down to them.

7 Cuidado! Não se misturem com essas nações que ainda restam no meio de vocês. Não mencionem os nomes dos falsos deuses, nem jurem pelos seus nomes. Não sirvam nem adorem esses falsos deuses!

8 Instead, you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.

8 Continuem seguindo de perto somente o Senhor, o seu Deus, como vocês têm feito até hoje.

9 The LORD has driven out great and powerful nations before you, and to this day no one can stand against you.

9 “O Senhor expulsou de diante de vocês nações grandes e poderosas; e ninguém pôde resistir a vocês, até hoje.

10 One of you can put a thousand to flight, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as He promised.

10 Um só de vocês basta para pôr em fuga mil inimigos, pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, luta por vocês, como prometeu.

11 Therefore watch yourselves carefully, that you love the LORD your God.

11 Portanto, esforcem-se para continuar amando com zelo o Senhor, o seu Deus!

12 For if you turn away and cling to the rest of these nations that remain among you, and if you intermarry and associate with them,

12 “Se, porém, vocês de alguma maneira se desviarem, e se associarem com os sobreviventes destas nações pagãs que ficaram entre vocês, e se casarem com eles,

13 know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a snare and a trap, a scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that the LORD your God has given you.

13 fiquem sabendo, com toda a certeza, que o Senhor, o seu Deus, não mais expulsará essas nações da presença de vocês. Em vez disso, elas serão armadilha e laço para vocês, chicote em suas costas e espinhos nos olhos de vocês, até que vocês desapareçam desta boa terra que receberam do Senhor, o seu Deus.

14 Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.

14 “Logo vou seguir pelo caminho de toda a terra. Vocês sabem muito bem, de coração e de alma, que as promessas do Senhor, o seu Deus, foram todas cumpridas. Todas as coisas boas que ele prometeu já são uma realidade, e nada falta.

15 But just as every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come to pass, likewise the LORD will bring upon you the calamity He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from this good land He has given you.

15 Mas, tão certo como as boas promessas que o Senhor, o seu Deus, se cumpriram, ele também fará cumprir as ameaças que fez no caso de desobedecerem, até eliminá-los da boa terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, deu a vocês.

16 If you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from this good land He has given you.”

16 Se quebrarem a aliança que o Senhor, o seu Deus, fez com vocês, e passarem a servir e adorar a outros deuses, a ira do Senhor se acenderá contra vocês, e vocês logo serão destruídos na boa terra que ele deu a vocês”.
