Numbers 25

1 While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with the daughters of Moab,

1 Israeli alipokuwa akikaa Shitimu, wanaume wa Israeli walianza kuzini na wanawake wa Kimoabu,

2 who also invited them to the sacrifices for their gods. And the people ate and bowed down to these gods.

3 So Israel joined in worshiping Baal of Peor, and the anger of the LORD burned against them.

3 Kwa hiyo Israeli akaungana katika kumwabudu Baali wa Peori. Hasira ya Bwana ikawaka dhidi yao.

4 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that His fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”

4 Bwana akamwambia Mose, “Uwachukue viongozi wote wa watu hawa, uwaue na uwaweke hadharani mchana peupe mbele za Bwana, ili hasira kali ya Bwana iweze kuondoka kwa Israeli.”

5 So Moses told the judges of Israel, “Each of you must kill all of his men who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.”

5 Kwa hiyo Mose akawaambia waamuzi wa Israeli, “Kila mmoja wenu lazima awaue wale wanaume wenu, walioshiriki katika kumwabudu Baali wa Peori.”

6 Just then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and the whole congregation of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

6 Ndipo mwanaume wa Kiisraeli akamleta mwanamke wa Kimidiani katika jamaa yake palepale mbele ya Mose na mkutano wote wa Israeli walipokuwa wakilia kwenye lango la Hema la Kukutania.

7 On seeing this, Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand,

7 Finehasi mwana wa Eleazari, mwana wa kuhani Aroni, alipoona jambo hili, akaondoka kwenye kusanyiko, akachukua mkuki mkononi mwake,

8 followed the Israelite into the tent, and drove the spear through both of them—through the Israelite and on through the belly of the woman. So the plague against the Israelites was halted,

8 akamfuata yule Mwisraeli ndani ya hema. Akawachoma mkuki wote wawili kwa pamoja, ukapenya kwenye mwili wa yule Mwisraeli na mwili wa yule mwanamke. Ndipo tauni iliyokuwepo dhidi ya Waisraeli ikakoma.

9 but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.

9 Lakini wale waliokufa kwa hiyo tauni walikuwa watu 24,000.

10 Then the LORD said to Moses,

10 Bwana akamwambia Mose,

11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned My wrath away from the Israelites; for he was zealous for My sake among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in My zeal.

11 “Finehasi mwana wa Eleazari, mwana wa kuhani Aroni, amegeuza hasira yangu mbali na Waisraeli, kwa sababu alikuwa na wivu kama nilio nao kwa heshima yangu miongoni mwao, hata kwamba kwa wivu wangu sikuwaangamiza.

12 Declare, therefore, that I am granting him My covenant of peace.

12 Kwa hiyo mwambie Finehasi ninafanya Agano langu la amani naye.

13 It will be a covenant of permanent priesthood for him and his descendants, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.”

13 Yeye pamoja na wazao wake watakuwa na Agano la ukuhani milele, kwa sababu alikuwa na wivu kwa ajili ya heshima ya Mungu wake, na akafanya upatanisho kwa Waisraeli.”

14 The name of the Israelite who was slain with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family.

14 Jina la Mwisraeli ambaye aliuawa pamoja na mwanamke wa Kimidiani ni Zimri mwana wa Salu, kiongozi wa jamaa ya Simeoni.

15 And the name of the slain Midianite woman was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.

15 Jina la mwanamke wa Kimidiani aliyeuawa ni Kozbi binti wa Suri, aliyekuwa mkuu wa kabila la jamaa ya Wamidiani.

16 And the LORD said to Moses,

16 Bwana akamwambia Mose,

17 “Attack the Midianites and strike them dead.

17 “Watendeeni Wamidiani kama adui na mwaue,

18 For they assailed you deceitfully when they seduced you in the matter of Peor and their sister Cozbi, the daughter of the Midianite leader, the woman who was killed on the day the plague came because of Peor.”

18 kwa sababu wao waliwatendea kama adui wakati waliwadanganya katika tukio la Peori na dada yao Kozbi, binti wa kiongozi wa Kimidiani, mwanamke ambaye aliuawa wakati tauni ilikuja kama matokeo ya tukio la Peori.”
