Revelation 13

1 Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads rising out of the sea. There were ten royal crowns on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads.

1 また私は見た。海から一匹の獣が上って来た。これには十本の角と七つの頭とがあった。その角には十の冠があり、その頭には神をけがす名があった。

2 The beast I saw was like a leopard, with the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.

2 私の見たその獣は、ひょうに似ており、足は熊の足のようで、口はししの口のようであった。竜はこの獣に、自分の力と位と大きな権威とを与えた。

3 One of the heads of the beast appeared to have been mortally wounded. But the mortal wound was healed, and the whole world marveled and followed the beast.

3 その頭のうちの一つは打ち殺されたかと思われたが、その致命的な傷も直ってしまった。そこで、全地は驚いて、その獣に従い、

4 They worshiped the dragon who had given authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can wage war against it?”

4 そして、竜を拝んだ。獣に権威を与えたのが竜だからである。また彼らは獣をも拝んで、「だれがこの獣に比べられよう。だれがこれと戦うことができよう。」と言った。

5 The beast was given a mouth to speak arrogant and blasphemous words, and authority to act for 42 months.

5 この獣は、傲慢なことを言い、けがしごとを言う口を与えられ、四十二か月間活動する権威を与えられた。

6 And the beast opened its mouth to speak blasphemies against God and to slander His name and His tabernacle—those who dwell in heaven.

6 そこで、彼はその口を開いて、神に対するけがしごとを言い始めた。すなわち、神の御名と、その幕屋、すなわち、天に住む者たちをののしった。

7 Then the beast was permitted to wage war against the saints and to conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.

7 彼はまた聖徒たちに戦いをいどんで打ち勝つことが許され、また、あらゆる部族、民族、国語、国民を支配する権威を与えられた。

8 And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb who was slain.

8 地に住む者で、ほふられた小羊のいのちの書に、世の初めからその名の書きしるされていない者はみな、彼を拝むようになる。

9 He who has an ear, let him hear:

9 耳のある者は聞きなさい。

10 “If anyone is destined for captivity, into captivity he will go; if anyone is to die by the sword, by the sword he must be killed.” Here is a call for the perseverance and faith of the saints.

10 とりこになるべき者は、とりこにされて行く。剣で殺す者は、自分も剣で殺されなければならない。ここに聖徒の忍耐と信仰がある。

11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. This beast had two horns like a lamb, but spoke like a dragon.

11 また、私は見た。もう一匹の獣が地から上って来た。それには小羊のような二本の角があり、竜のようにものを言った。

12 And this beast exercised all the authority of the first beast and caused the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed.

12 この獣は、最初の獣が持っているすべての権威をその獣の前で働かせた。また、地と地に住む人々に、致命的な傷の直った最初の獣を拝ませた。

13 And the second beast performed great signs, even causing fire from heaven to come down to earth in the presence of the people.

13 また、人々の前で、火を天から地に降らせるような大きなしるしを行なった。

14 Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.

14 また、あの獣の前で行なうことを許されたしるしをもって地上に住む人々を惑わし、剣の傷を受けながらもなお生き返ったあの獣の像を造るように、地上に住む人々に命じた。

15 The second beast was permitted to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed.

15 それから、その獣の像に息を吹き込んで、獣の像がもの言うことさえもできるようにし、また、その獣の像を拝まない者をみな殺させた。

16 And the second beast required all people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,

16 また、小さい者にも、大きい者にも、富んでいる者にも、貧しい者にも、自由人にも、奴隷にも、すべての人々にその右の手かその額かに、刻印を受けさせた。

17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark—the name of the beast or the number of its name.

17 また、その刻印、すなわち、あの獣の名、またはその名の数字を持っている者以外は、だれも、買うことも、売ることもできないようにした。

18 Here is a call for wisdom: Let the one who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and that number is 666.

18 ここに知恵がある。思慮ある者はその獣の数字を数えなさい。その数字は人間をさしているからである。その数字は六百六十六である。
