2 Corinthians 4

1 Therefore, since God in His mercy has given us this ministry, we do not lose heart.

1 Jumala itse on hyvyydessään antanut meille tehtäväksi levittää hyvää uutista Kristuksesta, emmekä sen tähden anna periksi.

2 Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not practice deceit, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by open proclamation of the truth, we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

2 Emme yritä houkutella ihmisiä uskomaan tarjoamalla heille Jumalan sanana mitään, mitä Raamatussa ei ole. Sellaisia keinoja emme harrasta. Jumala tietää, että puhumme totta – sen voivat todistaa kaikki, jotka meidät tuntevat.

3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.

3 Ne, jotka ovat matkalla ikuiseen kuolemaan, eivät ymmärrä sitä hyvää uutista, jota levitämme.

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

4 Heidät on sokaissut saatana, joka hallitsee tätä pahaa maailmaa. He eivät pysty näkemään Kristuksesta loistavaa kirkasta valoa eivätkä ymmärtämään puhettamme Kristuksesta, joka on Jumala.

5 For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

5 Emmehän kierrä puhumassa itsestämme, vaan Jeesuksesta Kristuksesta: hän on Herra. Me itse olemme vain teidän palvelijoitanne sen tähden, mitä Jeesus on tehnyt puolestamme.

6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

6 Jumala sanoi luodessaan: »Syttyköön valo pimeään!» Hän on myös antanut Kristuksen valon sydämeemme. Siksi voimme opettaa ihmisiä tuntemaan sen Jumalan kirkkauden, jota Jeesus säteilee.

7 Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us.

7 Tämä aarre, hyvä uutinen Kristuksesta, on meillä kuin saviastiassa. Kun levitämme evankeliumia, kaikki näkevät, ettei meissä oleva suunnaton voima ole omamme, vaan Jumalan.

8 We are hard pressed on all sides, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;

8 Huolet ahdistavat meitä joka puolelta, mutta emme murru. Olemme ymmällä, koska emme näe kaikkien tapahtumien tarkoitusta, mutta emme anna periksi.

9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

9 Meitä vainotaan, mutta Jumala ei jätä meitä koskaan. Meidät lyödään maahan, mutta nousemme taas jatkamaan matkaa.

10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

10 Meidän ruumiimme on jatkuvasti kuoleman uhan edessä, niin kuin Jeesuskin oli. Sen tähden kaikille käy selväksi, että meissä elävä Kristus vain voi olla turvamme.

11 For we who are alive are always consigned to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our mortal body.

11 Herraa palvellessamme olemme jatkuvasti hengenvaarassa, mutta tästä syystä näkyy ruumiissamme, joka kerran kuitenkin kuolee, Kristuksen voima yhä uusissa tilanteissa.

12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

12 Hyvän uutisen julistamisen tähden kuolema uhkaa meitä jatkuvasti, mutta teille on hyvä uutinen tuonut ikuisen elämän.

13 And in keeping with what is written, “I believed, therefore I have spoken,” we who have the same spirit of faith also believe and therefore speak,

13 Puhumme rohkeasti siitä, mihin uskomme, kuten psalmien kirjoittajakin, joka sanoi: »Minä uskon ja sen tähden myös puhun.»

14 knowing that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in His presence.

14 Tiedämme, että sama Jumala, joka toi Jeesuksen kuolemasta takaisin elämään, herättää meidätkin eloon ja vie Jeesuksen luo yhdessä teidän kanssanne.

15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is extending to more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow, to the glory of God.

15 Kärsimme teidän puolestanne, sillä mitä useammat teistä voitetaan Kristukselle, sitä useammat kiittävät hänen hyvyyttään ja kunnioittavat Jumalaa.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.

16 Sen tähden emme hellitä. Vaikka tiedämme, että ruumiimme kuolee, Herran antama sisäinen voimamme kasvaa päivä päivältä.

17 For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory that is far beyond comparison.

17 Huolemme ja kärsimyksemme ovat lopultakin pieniä ja ohimeneviä. Lyhyen ahdistuksen ajan jälkeen saamme ikuisesti iloita Jumalan luona.

18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

18 Siksi emme jää tuijottamaan elämän murheisiin, vaan näemme jo sielumme silmillä taivaan ilon. Murheet ovat pian ohi, mutta taivaan ilo kestää ikuisesti.
