Ephesians 5

1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children,

1 Siate dunque imitatori di Dio, come figliuoli suoi diletti;

2 and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.

2 camminate nell’amore come anche Cristo vi ha amati e ha dato se stesso per noi in offerta e sacrificio a Dio, qual profumo d’odor soave.

3 But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed.

3 Ma come si conviene a dei santi, né fornicazione, né alcuna impurità, né avarizia, sia neppur nominata fra voi;

4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving.

4 né disonestà, né buffonerie, né facezie scurrili, che son cose sconvenienti; ma piuttosto, rendimento di grazie.

5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

5 Poiché voi sapete molto bene che niun fornicatore o impuro, o avaro (che è un idolatra), ha eredità nel regno di Cristo e di Dio.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.

6 Niuno vi seduca con vani ragionamenti; poiché è per queste cose che l’ira di Dio viene sugli uomini ribelli.

7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

7 Non siate dunque loro compagni;

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

8 perché già eravate tenebre, ma ora siete luce nel Signore. Conducetevi come figliuoli di luce

9 for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

9 (poiché il frutto della luce consiste in tutto ciò che è bontà e giustizia e verità),

10 Test and prove what pleases the Lord.

10 esaminando che cosa sia accetto al Signore.

11 Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

11 E non partecipate alle opere infruttuose delle tenebre; anzi, piuttosto riprendetele;

12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

12 poiché egli è disonesto pur di dire le cose che si fanno da costoro in occulto.

13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that is illuminated becomes a light itself.

13 Ma tutte le cose, quando sono riprese dalla luce, diventano manifeste; poiché tutto ciò che è manifesto, è luce.

14 So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

14 Perciò dice: Risvegliati, o tu che dormi, e risorgi da’ morti, e Cristo t’inonderà di luce.

15 Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,

15 Guardate dunque con diligenza come vi conducete; non da stolti, ma da savi;

16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

16 approfittando delle occasioni, perché i giorni sono malvagi.

17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

17 Perciò non siate disavveduti, ma intendete bene quale sia la volontà del Signore.

18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

18 E non v’inebriate di vino; esso porta alla dissolutezza; ma siate ripieni dello Spirito,

19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,

19 parlandovi con salmi ed inni e canzoni spirituali, cantando e salmeggiando col cuor vostro al Signore;

20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

20 rendendo del continuo grazie d’ogni cosa a Dio e Padre, nel nome del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo;

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

21 sottoponendovi gli uni agli altri nel timore di Cristo.

22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

22 Mogli, siate soggette ai vostri mariti, come al Signore;

23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior.

23 poiché il marito è capo della moglie, come anche Cristo è capo della Chiesa, egli, che è il Salvatore del corpo.

24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

24 Ma come la Chiesa è soggetta a Cristo, così debbono anche le mogli esser soggette a’ loro mariti in ogni cosa.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her

25 Mariti, amate le vostre mogli, come anche Cristo ha amato la Chiesa e ha dato se stesso per lei,

26 to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

26 affin di santificarla, dopo averla purificata col lavacro dell’acqua mediante la Parola,

27 and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

27 affin di far egli stesso comparire dinanzi a sé questa Chiesa, gloriosa, senza macchia, senza ruga o cosa alcuna simile, ma santa ed irreprensibile.

28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

28 Allo stesso modo anche i mariti debbono amare le loro mogli, come i loro propri corpi. Chi ama sua moglie ama se stesso.

29 Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.

29 Poiché niuno ebbe mai in odio la sua carne; anzi la nutre e la cura teneramente, come anche Cristo fa per la Chiesa,

30 For we are members of His body.

30 poiché noi siamo membra del suo corpo.

31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”

31 Perciò l’uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e s’unirà a sua moglie, e i due diverranno una stessa carne.

32 This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

32 Questo mistero è grande; dico questo, riguardo a Cristo ed alla Chiesa.

33 Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

33 Ma d’altronde, anche fra voi, ciascuno individualmente così ami sua moglie, come ama se stesso; e altresì la moglie rispetti il marito.
