John 13

1 It was now just before the Passover Feast, and Jesus knew that His hour had come to leave this world and return to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the very end.

1 Pouco antes da festa da Páscoa, Jesus sabia que tinha chegado a hora de deixar este mundo e ir para o Pai. E tendo amado os seus que estavam no mundo, amou-os até o fim.

2 The evening meal was underway, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

2 Durante a ceia, o diabo já havia induzido Judas Iscariotes, filho de Simão, que aquela era a noite para ele executar o seu plano de trair Jesus.

3 Jesus knew that the Father had delivered all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.

3 Jesus sabia que recebera do Pai todas as coisas, que tinha vindo de Deus e voltaria para Deus.

4 So He got up from the supper, laid aside His outer garments, and wrapped a towel around His waist.

4 Assim foi que ele se levantou da mesa da ceia, tirou a capa, enrolou uma toalha na cintura,

5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel that was around Him.

5 derramou água numa bacia, e começou a lavar os pés dos seus discípulos, enxugando-os com a toalha que tinha à sua volta.

6 He came to Simon Peter, who asked Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?”

6 Quando chegou a Simão Pedro, este lhe disse: “Mestre, o Senhor vai lavar os meus pés?”

7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

7 Jesus respondeu: “Você não entende agora por que eu estou fazendo isso; mais tarde, porém, entenderá”.

8 “Never shall You wash my feet!” Peter told Him. Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”

8 “Não”, protestou Pedro. “O Senhor nunca lavará os meus pés!” “Mas se eu não lavar, você não terá parte comigo”, respondeu Jesus.

9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not only my feet, but my hands and my head as well!”

9 Simão Pedro exclamou: “Então, Senhor, lave-me as mãos e a cabeça também, e não somente os pés!”

10 Jesus told him, “Whoever has already bathed needs only to wash his feet, and he will be completely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.”

10 Jesus respondeu: “Aquele que tomou um banho completo só necessita lavar os pés para ficar totalmente limpo. Ora, vocês estão limpos; isto, porém, não é verdade a respeito de todos aqui”.

11 For He knew who would betray Him. That is why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

11 Pois Jesus sabia por quem seria traído. Era isso que ele queria dizer quando falou: “Nem todos vocês estão limpos”.

12 When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His outer garments, He reclined with them again and asked, “Do you know what I have done for you?

12 Depois de lavar os pés deles, Jesus vestiu a capa outra vez, acomodou-se e perguntou: “Vocês entendem o que eu estava fazendo?

13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, because I am.

13 Vocês me chamam ‘Mestre’ e ‘Senhor’, e fazem bem, porque eu sou.

14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

14 E já que, sendo o Senhor e o Mestre de vocês, lavei os seus pés, vocês também devem lavar os pés uns dos outros.

15 I have set you an example so that you should do as I have done for you.

15 Eu dei um exemplo para ser seguido: façam como eu fiz com vocês.

16 Truly, truly, I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

16 A verdade é que nenhum escravo é maior do que o seu senhor. Nem um mensageiro é mais importante do que aquele que o envia.

17 If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

17 Agora que vocês já sabem estas coisas, serão felizes se as praticarem.

18 I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the Scripture: ‘The one who shares My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

18 “Não estou dizendo estas coisas a vocês todos; eu conheço muito bem cada um, pois eu escolhi vocês. A Escritura declara: ‘Um dos que comem a ceia comigo me trairá’, e isto vai acontecer logo.

19 I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I am He.

19 “Estou dizendo isso antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, vocês creiam em mim.

20 Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever receives the one I send receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.”

20 Verdadeiramente eu afirmo a vocês: Qualquer um que receber aquele que eu enviar, estará recebendo a mim; e quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou”.

21 After Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit and testified, “Truly, truly, I tell you, one of you will betray Me.”

21 Nisto, Jesus sentiu uma profunda tristeza de espírito e exclamou: “Digo-lhes a verdade: Um de vocês me trairá”.

22 The disciples looked at one another, perplexed as to which of them He meant.

22 Seus discípulos olharam uns para os outros, sem saber de quem ele poderia estar falando.

23 One of His disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at His side.

23 Ao lado de Jesus estava sentado um deles, a quem Jesus amava.

24 So Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus which one He was talking about.

24 Simão Pedro fez um sinal para esse discípulo e disse: “Pergunte-lhe a quem ele está se referindo”.

25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked, “Lord, who is it?”

25 Então esse discípulo inclinou-se para mais perto de Jesus e perguntou: “Quem é ele, Senhor?”

26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I give this morsel after I have dipped it.” Then He dipped the morsel and gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.

26 Jesus respondeu-lhe: “É aquele a quem eu der esse pão molhado”. Então molhou o pedaço de pão e o deu a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes.

27 And when Judas had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to Judas, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”

27 Logo que Judas comeu o pão, Satanás entrou nele. Então Jesus disse: “O que você vai fazer, faça depressa”.

28 But no one at the table knew why Jesus had said this to him.

28 Nenhum dos outros à mesa soube o que Jesus quis dizer.

29 Since Judas kept the money bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast, or to give something to the poor.

29 Alguns pensavam que Jesus estava dizendo-lhe que fosse comprar a comida ou dar algum dinheiro aos pobres, visto que Judas era o que tomava conta do dinheiro.

30 As soon as he had received the morsel, Judas went out into the night.

30 Judas comeu o pão e saiu, desaparecendo na noite.

31 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.

31 Logo que ele saiu, Jesus disse: “Chegou a hora de o Filho do Homem ser glorificado, e Deus será glorificado nele.

32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify the Son in Himself—and will glorify Him at once.

32 E se Deus é glorificado nele, também Deus o glorificará nele mesmo; e o glorificará imediatamente.

33 Little children, I am with you only a little while longer. You will look for Me, and as I said to the Jews, so now I say to you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’

33 “Meus amados filhos, estarei com vocês mais um pouco. Vocês vão me procurar, mas, como eu disse aos líderes judaicos, para onde eu vou, vocês não poderão ir.

34 A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another.

34 “Por isso eu estou dando a vocês um novo mandamento: Amem-se uns aos outros. Como eu os amei, vocês devem amar-se uns aos outros.

35 By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

35 Esse profundo amor que vocês tiverem uns pelos outros provará ao mundo que vocês são meus discípulos”.

36 “Lord, where are You going?” Simon Peter asked. Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.”

36 Simão Pedro lhe perguntou: “Senhor, para onde o Senhor vai?” E Jesus respondeu: “Para onde vou, vocês não podem ir agora; porém mais tarde poderão me seguir”.

37 “Lord,” said Peter, “why can’t I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.”

37 “Senhor, mas por que eu não posso ir agora?”, perguntou ele. “Pois estou pronto a morrer pelo Senhor”.

38 “Will you lay down your life for Me?” Jesus replied. “Truly, truly, I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.

38 Jesus respondeu: “Morrer por mim? Pois eu afirmo que antes que o galo cante, você negará três vezes que me conhece!
