Nehemiah 7

1 When the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed.

1 وَبَعْدَ أَنِ اكْتَمَلَ بِنَاءُ السُّورِ، وَأَقَمْتُ الْمَصَارِيعَ، وَتَمَّ تَعْيِينُ الْبَوَّابِينَ وَالْمُغَنِّينَ، وَاللّاوِيِّينَ،

2 Then I put my brother Hanani in charge of Jerusalem, along with Hananiah the commander of the fortress, because he was a faithful man who feared God more than most.

2 عَهِدْتُ بِتَدْبِيرِ شُؤُونِ أُورُشَلِيمَ إِلَى أَخِي حَنَانِي، وَإِلَى حَنَنْيَا رَئِيسِ الْقَصْرِ، لأَنَّهُ كَانَ رَجُلاً أَمِيناً يَتَّقِي اللهَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سِوَاهُ.

3 And I told them, “Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the guards are on duty, keep the doors shut and securely fastened. And appoint the residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some at their own homes.”

3 وَقُلْتُ لَهُمَا: «لا تَسْمَحَا بِفَتْحِ أَبْوَابِ أُورُشَلِيمَ قَبْلَ اشْتِدَادِ حَرَارَةِ الشَّمْسِ، وَلْيَتِمَّ إِغْلاقُ مَصَارِيعِهَا وَأَقْفَالِهَا، وَحُرَّاسُ الأَبْوَابِ مَازَالُوا يَقُومُونَ بِنَوْبَةِ حِرَاسَتِهِمْ». وَعَيَّنْتُ حُرَّاساً مِنْ أَهْلِ أُورُشَلِيمَ، وَقَفَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ مُقَابِلَ بَيْتِهِ.

4 Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt.

4 وَكَانَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ وَاسِعَةَ الأَرْجَاءِ وَعَظِيمَةً، وَلا يَقْطُنُهَا سِوَى شَعْبٍ قَلِيلٍ، لأَنَّ الْبُيُوتَ لَمْ يَكُنْ قَدْ أُعِيدَ بِنَاؤُهَا.

5 Then my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials, and the people to be enrolled by genealogy. I found the genealogical register of those who had first returned, and I found the following written in it:

5 فَأَلْهَمَنِي إِلَهِي أَنْ أَجْمَعَ الأَشْرَافَ وَالْوُلاةَ وَالشَّعْبَ لِتَسْجِيلِ أَنْسَابِهِمْ حَسَبَ عَائِلاتِهِمْ، فَعَثَرْتُ عَلَى سِجِلِّ أَنْسَابِ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا أَوَّلاً مِنَ السَّبْيِ، وَوَجَدْتُ مُدَوَّناً فِيهِ:

6 These are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,

6 هَؤُلاءِ هُمْ أَبْنَاءُ الْبِلادِ الَّذِينَ رَجَعُوا مِنْ سَبْيِ نَبُوخَذْنَصَّرَ مَلِكِ بَابِلَ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ وَيَهُوذَا، كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ إِلَى مَدِينَتِهِ:

7 accompanied by Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. This is the count of the men of Israel:

7 الَّذِينَ وَفَدُوا مَعَ زَرُبَّابِلَ وَيَشُوعَ وَنَحَمْيَا وَعَزَرْيَا وَرَعَمْيَا وَنَحْمَانِي وَمُرْدَخَايَ وَبِلْشَانَ وَمِسْفَارَثَ وَبِغْوَايَ وَنَحُومَ وَبَعْنَةَ. وَهَذَا بَيَانٌ بِعَدَدِ رِجَالِ شَعْبِ إِسْرَائِيلَ:

8 the descendants of Parosh, 2,172;

8 بَنُو فَرْعُوشَ: أَلْفَانِ وَمِئَةٌ وَاثْنَانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

9 the descendants of Shephatiah, 372;

9 بَنُو شَفَطْيَا: ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنَانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

10 the descendants of Arah, 652;

10 بَنُو آرَحَ: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنَانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

11 the descendants of Pahath-moab (through the line of Jeshua and Joab), 2,818;

11 بَنُو فَحَثَ مُوآبَ مِنْ نَسْلِ يَشُوعَ وَيُوآبَ: أَلْفَانِ وَثَمَانِي مِئَةٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ.

12 the descendants of Elam, 1,254;

12 بَنُو عِيلامَ: أَلْفٌ وَمِئَتَانِ وَأَرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

13 the descendants of Zattu, 845;

13 بَنُو زَتُّو: ثَمَانِي مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

14 the descendants of Zaccai, 760;

14 بَنُو زَكَّايَ: سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتُّونَ.

15 the descendants of Binnui, 648;

15 بَنُو بَنُّوِي: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

16 the descendants of Bebai, 628;

16 بَنُو بَابَايَ: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

17 the descendants of Azgad, 2,322;

17 بَنُو عَزْجَدَ: أَلْفَانِ وَثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنَانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

18 the descendants of Adonikam, 667;

18 بَنُو أَدُونِيقَامَ: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

19 the descendants of Bigvai, 2,067;

19 بَنُو بِغْوَايَ: أَلْفَانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

20 the descendants of Adin, 655;

20 بَنُو عَادِينَ: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

21 the descendants of Ater (through Hezekiah), 98;

21 بَنُو أَطِّيرَ مِنْ نَسْلِ حَزَقِيَّا: ثَمَانِيَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

22 the descendants of Hashum, 328;

22 بَنُو حَشُومَ: ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

23 the descendants of Bezai, 324;

23 بَنُو بِيصَايَ: ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَأَرْبَعَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

24 the descendants of Hariph, 112;

24 بَنُو حَارِيفَ: مِئَةٌ وَاثْنَا عَشَرَ.

25 the descendants of Gibeon, 95;

25 (وَقَدْ عَادَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمُدْنِ التَّالِيَةِ الَّتِي عَاشَ آبَاؤُهُمْ فِيهَا) مِنْ أَهْلِ جِبْعُونَ: خَمْسَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

26 the men of Bethlehem and Netophah, 188;

26 مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ لَحْمٍ وَنَطُوفَةَ: مِئَةٌ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَثَمَانُونَ.

27 the men of Anathoth, 128;

27 مِنْ أَهْلِ عَنَاثُوثَ: مِئَةٌ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

28 the men of Beth-azmaveth, 42;

28 مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ عَزْمُوتَ: اثْنَانِ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

29 the men of Kiriath-jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, 743;

29 مِنْ أَهْلِ قَرْيَةِ يَعَارِيمَ كَفِيرَةَ وَبَئِيرُوتَ: سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

30 the men of Ramah and Geba, 621;

30 مِنْ أَهْلِ الرَّامَةِ وَجَبَعَ: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَوَاحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

31 the men of Michmash, 122;

31 مِنْ أَهْلِ مِخْمَاسَ: مِئَةٌ وَاثْنَانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

32 the men of Bethel and Ai, 123;

32 مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ إِيلَ وَعَايَ: مِئَةٌ وَثَلاثَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

33 the men of the other Nebo, 52;

33 مِنْ أَهْلِ نَبُو الأُخْرَى: اثْنَانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

34 the descendants of the other Elam, 1,254;

34 مِنْ أَهْلِ عِيلامَ الآخَرِ: أَلْفٌ وَمِئَتَانِ وَأَرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

35 the descendants of Harim, 320;

35 مِنْ أَهْلِ حَارِيمَ: ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ.

36 the men of Jericho, 345;

36 مِنْ أَهْلِ أَرِيحَا: ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

37 the men of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, 721;

37 مِنْ أَهْلِ لُودَ وَحَادِيدَ وَأُونُو: سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَوَاحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

38 and the descendants of Senaah, 3,930.

38 مِنْ أَهْلِ سَنَاءَةَ: ثَلاثَةُ آلافٍ وَتِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثُونَ.

39 The priests: the descendants of Jedaiah (through the house of Jeshua), 973;

39 وَهَذِهِ عَشَائِرُ الْكَهَنَةِ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنَ السَّبْيِ: مِنْ بَنِي يَدْعِيَا مِنْ نَسْلِ يَشُوعَ: تِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

40 the descendants of Immer, 1,052;

40 بَنُو إِمِّيرَ: أَلْفٌ وَاثْنَانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

41 the descendants of Pashhur, 1,247;

41 بَنُو فَشْحُورَ: أَلْفٌ وَمِئَتَانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

42 and the descendants of Harim, 1,017.

42 بَنُو حَارِيمَ: أَلْفٌ وَسَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ.

43 The Levites: the descendants of Jeshua (through Kadmiel, through the line of Hodevah), 74.

43 أَمَّا عَشَائِرُ اللّاوِيِّينَ فَهُمْ: بَنُو يَشُوعَ مِنْ نَسْلِ قَدْمِيئِيلَ مِنْ أَحْفَادِ هُودُويَا: أَرْبَعَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

44 The singers: the descendants of Asaph, 148.

44 الْمُغَنُّونَ مِنْ بَنِي آسَافَ: مِئَةٌ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

45 The gatekeepers: the descendants of Shallum, the descendants of Ater, the descendants of Talmon, the descendants of Akkub, the descendants of Hatita, and the descendants of Shobai, 138 in all.

45 حُرَّاسُ أَبْوَابِ الْهَيْكَلِ مِنْ بَنِي شَلُّومَ، وَأَطِيرَ وَطَلْمُونَ وَعَقُّوبَ وَحَطِيطَا وَشُوبَايَ: مِئَةٌ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ.

46 The temple servants: the descendants of Ziha, the descendants of Hasupha, the descendants of Tabbaoth,

46 خُدَّامُ الْهَيْكَلِ: بَنُو صِيحَا وَحَسُوفَا وَطَبَاعُوتَ،

47 the descendants of Keros, the descendants of Sia, the descendants of Padon,

47 وَقِيرُوسَ وَسِيعَا وَفَادُونَ،

48 the descendants of Lebanah, the descendants of Hagabah, the descendants of Shalmai,

48 وَلَبَانَةَ وَحَجَابَا وَسَلْمَايَ،

49 the descendants of Hanan, the descendants of Giddel, the descendants of Gahar,

49 وَحَانَانَ وَجَدِيلَ وَجَاحَرَ،

50 the descendants of Reaiah, the descendants of Rezin, the descendants of Nekoda,

50 وَرَآيَا وَرَصِينَ وَنَقُودَا،

51 the descendants of Gazzam, the descendants of Uzza, the descendants of Paseah,

51 وَجَزَامَ وَعَزَا وَفَاسِيحَ،

52 the descendants of Besai, the descendants of Meunim, the descendants of Nephushesim,

52 وَبِيسَايَ وَمَعُونِيمَ وَنَفِيشَسِيمَ،

53 the descendants of Bakbuk, the descendants of Hakupha, the descendants of Harhur,

53 وَبَقْبُوقَ وَحَقُوفَا وَحَرْحُورَ،

54 the descendants of Bazlith, the descendants of Mehida, the descendants of Harsha,

54 وَبَصْلِيتَ وَمَحِيدَا وَحَرْشَا،

55 the descendants of Barkos, the descendants of Sisera, the descendants of Temah,

55 وَبَرْقُوسَ وَسِيسَرَا وَتَامَحَ،

56 the descendants of Neziah, and the descendants of Hatipha.

56 وَنَصِيحَ وَحَطِيفَا.

57 The descendants of the servants of Solomon: the descendants of Sotai, the descendants of Sophereth, the descendants of Perida,

57 وَمِنْ نَسْلِ رِجَالِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنَ السَّبْيِ: بَنُو سُوطَايَ، وَسُوفَرَثَ وَفَرِيدَا،

58 the descendants of Jaala, the descendants of Darkon, the descendants of Giddel,

58 وَيَعْلا وَدَرْقُونَ وَجَدِيلَ،

59 the descendants of Shephatiah, the descendants of Hattil, the descendants of Pochereth-hazzebaim, and the descendants of Amon.

59 وَشَفَطْيَا وَحَطِّيلَ وَفُوخَرَةِ الظِّبَاءِ وَآمُونَ.

60 The temple servants and descendants of the servants of Solomon numbered 392 in all.

60 فَكَانَتْ جُمْلَةُ عَدَدِ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنْ بَنِي خُدَّامِ الْهَيْكَلِ وَرِجَالِ سُلَيْمَانَ ثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنَيْنِ وَتِسْعِينَ رَجُلاً.

61 The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not prove that their families were descended from Israel:

61 وَهَذَا بَيَانٌ بِعَشَائِرِ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنْ تَلِّ مِلْحٍ وَتَلِّ حَرْشَا كَرُوبَ وَأَدُونَ وَإِمِّيرَ مِمَّنْ أَخْفَقُوا فِي إِثْبَاتِ انْتِمَاءِ بُيُوتِ آبَائِهِمْ وَنَسْلِهِمْ إِلَى إِسْرَائِيلَ:

62 the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 642 in all.

62 بَنُو دَلايَا وَطُوبِيَّا وَنَقُودَا: سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنَانِ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

63 And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai (who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name).

63 وَمِنَ الْكَهَنَةِ: بَنُو حَبَابَا وَهَقُّوصَ وَبَرْزِلّايَ الَّذِي تَزَوَّجَ مِنْ بَنَاتِ بَرْزِلّايَ الْجِلْعَادِيِّ وَانْتَسَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ.

64 These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

64 هَؤُلاءِ مُنِعُوا مِنْ مُمَارَسَةِ خِدْمَةِ الْكَهَنُوتِ، إِذْ لَمْ تُوْجَدْ أَنْسَابُهُمْ مُدَوَّنَةً فِي سِجِلاتِ الْكَهَنَةِ،

65 The governor ordered them not to eat the most holy things until there was a priest to consult the Urim and Thummim.

65 لِذَلِكَ أَمَرَهُمُ الْحَاكِمُ أَلّا يَتَنَاوَلُوا مِنْ طَعَامِ الْكَهَنَةِ إِلَى أَنْ يَحْضُرَ كَاهِنٌ يَقْدِرُ أَنْ يَسْتَخْدِمَ الأُورِيمَ وَالتُّمِّيمَ (لِيَفْصِلَ فِي الأَمْرِ).

66 The whole assembly numbered 42,360,

66 فَكَانَتْ جُمْلَةُ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنَ السَّبْيِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفاً وَثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَسِتِّينَ رَجُلاً،

67 in addition to their 7,337 menservants and maidservants, as well as their 245 male and female singers.

67 فَضْلاً عَنْ عَبِيدِهِمْ وَإِمَائِهِمْ الَّذِينَ بَلَغَ مَجْمُوعُهُمْ سَبْعَةَ آلافٍ وَثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ. أَمَّا الْمُغَنُّونَ وَالْمُغَنِّيَاتُ فَكَانُوا مِئَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسَةً وَأَرْبَعِينَ.

68 They had 736 horses, 245 mules,

68 وَكَانَ مَعَهُمْ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتَّةٌ وَثَلَاثُونَ، وَمِنَ الْبِغَالِ مِئَتَانِ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ.

69 435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys.

69 وَمِنَ الْجِمَالِ أَرْبَعُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ، وَمِنَ الْحَمِيرِ سِتَّةُ آلافٍ وَسَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ.

70 Some of the heads of the families contributed to the project. The governor gave to the treasury 1,000 darics of gold, 50 bowls, and 530 priestly garments.

70 وَتَبَرَّعَ بَعْضُ الرُّؤَسَاءِ بِأَمْوَالٍ لِلْعَمَلِ فِي بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ، فَتَبَرَّعَ الْحَاكِمُ لِلْخَزِينَةِ بِأَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَخَمْسِينَ مِنْضَحَةً وَخَمْسِ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثِينَ قَمِيصاً لِلْكَهَنَةِ.

71 And some of the heads of the families gave to the treasury for the project 20,000 darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver.

71 وَقَدَّمَ بَعْضُ رُؤَسَاءِ الْعَائِلاتِ لِخَزِينَةِ الْعَمَلِ رِبْوَتَيْنِ (نَحْوَ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعِينَ كِيلُو جِرَاماً) مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَأَلْفَيْنِ وَمِئَتَيْ مَناً (نَحْوَ طُنٍّ وَثُلْثِ الطُّنِّ) مِنَ الْفِضَّةِ.

72 The rest of the people gave a total of 20,000 darics of gold, 2,000 minas of silver, and 67 priestly garments.

72 وَأَمَّا مَا قَدَّمَهُ بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعْبِ فَكَانَ سِتَّ رِبْوَاتٍ (نَحْوَ خَمْسِ مِئَةٍ وَعَشْرِ كِيلُو جِرَاماً) مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَأَلْفَيْ مَناً (نَحْوَ طُنٍّ وَرُبْعِ الطُّنِّ) مِنَ الْفِضَّةِ وَسَبْعَةً وَسِتِّينَ قَمِيصاً لِلْكَهَنَةِ.

73 So the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and temple servants, along with some of the people and the rest of the Israelites, settled in their own towns. And by the seventh month the Israelites had settled in their towns.

73 وَسَكَنَ الْكَهَنَةُ وَاللّاوِيُّونَ وَحَرَسُ الأَبْوَابِ وَالْمُغَنُّونَ وَبَعْضُ الشَّعْبِ وَخُدَّامُ الْهَيْكَلِ وَسَائِرُ إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ. وَمَا إِنْ أَهَلَّ الشَّهْرُ السَّابِعُ (سِبْتَمْبَر – أَيْلُولُ) حَتَّى كَانَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ قَدِ اسْتَقَرُّوا فِي مُدُنِهِمْ.
