Ecclesiastes 11

1 Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.

1 Sé generoso en dar, pues más tarde volverán a ti tus regalos.

2 Divide your portion among seven, or even eight, for you do not know what disaster may befall the land.

2 Reparte tus regalos entre muchos pues no sabes si tú mismo estarás mañana en necesidad.

3 If the clouds are full, they will pour out rain upon the earth; whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie.

3 Cuando las nubes están cargadas, cae la lluvia; y si un árbol cae, sea hacia el norte o hacia el sur, allí se queda, su suerte está echada.

4 He who watches the wind will fail to sow, and he who observes the clouds will fail to reap.

4 Si esperas condiciones perfectas, nunca realizarás nada.

5 As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

5 Los caminos de Dios son misteriosos como la senda del viento, o como la forma en que el espíritu humano se infunde en el cuerpo del niño aún en el vientre de su madre.

6 Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or if both will equally prosper.

6 Persevera en la siembra, pues no sabes cuál semilla germinará; quizá germinen todas.

7 Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.

7 Maravilloso es estar vivo.

8 So if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is futile.

8 El que llegue a muy anciano regocíjese cada día de su vida, pero recuerde también que la eternidad es mucho más larga y que comparado con ella todo lo de este mundo es vano.

9 Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.

9 Joven, la juventud es un tesoro. ¡Disfruta cada minuto de ella! ¡Haz cuanto se te antoje! Pruébalo todo, pero sabe que tendrás que rendirle cuentas a Dios de cuanto hagas.

10 So banish sorrow from your heart, and cast off pain from your body, for youth and vigor are fleeting.

10 Aleja el sufrimiento y la pena, pero recuerda que el joven, ante el cual se extiende una vida entera, puede cometer graves errores.
