1 Corinthians 13

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.

1 यदि मैं मनुष्यों और स्वर्गदूतों की भाषाओं में बातें करूं मगर यदि मैं प्रेम न रखूं, तो मैं घनघनाता घड़ियाल या झनझनाती झांझ हूं.

2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

2 यदि मुझे भविष्यवाणी करने की क्षमता प्राप्‍त है, मैं भेद जानने वाला तथा ज्ञानी हूं और मेरा विश्वास ऐसा मजबूत हो कि मेरे वचन मात्र से पर्वत अपने स्थान से हट जाएं किंतु मैं प्रेम न रखूं तो मैं कुछ भी नहीं.

3 If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.

3 यदि मैं अपनी सारी संपत्ति कंगालों में बांट दूं और अपना शरीर भस्म होने के लिए बलिदान कर दूं किंतु यदि मैं प्रेम न रखूं तो क्या लाभ?

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

4 प्रेम धीरजवंत है, प्रेम कृपालु है. प्रेम जलन नहीं करता, अपनी बड़ाई नहीं करता, घमंड नहीं करता,

5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.

5 अशोभनीय नहीं, स्वार्थी नहीं, झुंझलाता भी नहीं और क्रोधी भी नहीं है.

6 Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.

6 उसका आनंद दुराचार में नहीं, सच्चाई में है.

7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

7 प्रेम हमेशा ही सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है, संदेह नहीं करता, हमेशा आशावान और हमेशा धीरज बनाए रहता है.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.

8 प्रेम अनंत काल का है. जहां तक भविष्यवाणियों का सवाल है, वे थोड़े समय के लिए हैं. भाषाएं निःशब्द हो जाएंगी तथा ज्ञान मिट जाएगा

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

9 क्योंकि अधूरा है हमारा ज्ञान और अधूरी है हमारी भविष्यवाणी करने की क्षमता;

10 but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.

10 किंतु जब हम सिद्धता तक पहुंच जाएंगे, वह सब, जो अधूरा है, मिट जाएगा.

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.

11 जब मैं बालक था, मैं बालक के समान बातें करता था, बालक के समान विचार करता था तथा बालक के समान ही वाद-विवाद करता था किंतु सयाना होने पर मैंने बालकों का सा व्यवहार छोड़ दिया.

12 Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

12 इस समय तो हमें आईने में धुंधला दिखाई देता है किंतु उस समय हम आमने-सामने देखेंगे. मेरा ज्ञान इस समय अधूरा है किंतु उस समय मेरा ज्ञान वैसा ही होगा जैसा इस समय मेरे विषय में परमेश्वर का है.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.

13 पर अब ये तीन: विश्वास, आशा और प्रेम ये तीनों स्थाई है किंतु इनमें सबसे ऊपर है प्रेम.
