2 Thessalonians 3

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.

1 終わりに、兄弟たちよ。私たちのために祈ってください。主のみことばが、あなたがたのところでと同じように早く広まり、またあがめられますように。

2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.

2 また、私たちが、ひねくれた悪人どもの手から救い出されますように。すべての人が信仰を持っているのではないからです。

3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

3 しかし、主は真実な方ですから、あなたがたを強くし、悪い者から守ってくださいます。

4 And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.

4 私たちが命じることを、あなたがたが現に実行しており、これからも実行してくれることを私たちは主にあって確信しています。

5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

5 どうか、主があなたがたの心を導いて、神の愛とキリストの忍耐とを持たせてくださいますように。

6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.

6 兄弟たちよ。主イエス・キリストの御名によって命じます。締まりのない歩み方をして私たちから受けた言い伝えに従わないでいる、すべての兄弟たちから離れていなさい。

7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,

7 どのように私たちを見ならうべきかは、あなたがた自身が知っているのです。あなたがたのところで、私たちは締まりのないことはしなかったし、

8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

8 人のパンをただで食べることもしませんでした。かえって、あなたがたのだれにも負担をかけまいとして、昼も夜も労苦しながら働き続けました。

9 Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.

9 それは、私たちに権利がなかったからではなく、ただ私たちを見ならうようにと、身をもってあなたがたに模範を示すためでした。

10 For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”

10 私たちは、あなたがたのところにいたときにも、働きたくない者は食べるなと命じました。

11 For we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives, accomplishing nothing, but being busybodies.

11 ところが、あなたがたの中には、何も仕事をせず、おせっかいばかりして、締まりのない歩み方をしている人たちがあると聞いています。

12 We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.

12 こういう人たちには、主イエス・キリストによって、命じ、また勧めます。静かに仕事をし、自分で得たパンを食べなさい。

13 But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.

13 しかしあなたがたは、たゆむことなく善を行ないなさい。兄弟たちよ。

14 Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.

14 もし、この手紙に書いた私たちの指示に従わない者があれば、そのような人には、特に注意を払い、交際しないようにしなさい。彼が恥じ入るようになるためです。

15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

15 しかし、その人を敵とはみなさず、兄弟として戒めなさい。

16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

16 どうか、平和の主ご自身が、どんなばあいにも、いつも、あなたがたに平和を与えてくださいますように。どうか、主があなたがたすべてと、ともにおられますように。

17 This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write.

17 パウロが自分の手であいさつを書きます。これは私のどの手紙にもあるしるしです。これが私の手紙の書き方です。

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.

18 どうか、私たちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたすべてとともにありますように。
