Hebrews 1

1 On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.

1 Jumala puhui esi-isillemme kauan sitten profeettojen välityksellä monin eri tavoin.

2 But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.

2 Nyt hän on puhunut meille Poikansa välityksellä. Hän on antanut Pojalleen kaiken ja luonut hänen kauttaan koko maailman.

3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

3 Jumalan Poika säteilee Jumalan kirkkautta. Hänen olemuksensa ja tekonsa osoittavat, että hän on Jumala. Hän ohjaa maailmankaikkeutta sanansa voimalla. Hän kuoli puolestamme puhdistaakseen meidät kaikesta synnistä. Nyt hän on taivaassa ja istuu siellä kunniapaikalla suuren Jumalan oikealla puolella.

4 So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.

4 Tämän vuoksi hän on enkeleitä paljon korkea-arvoisempi. Kutsuuhan Jumala häntä Pojakseen,

5 For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?

5–6 eikä Jumala ole koskaan sanonut kenellekään enkelille: »Sinä olet minun Poikani, joka tänään synnyit minusta.» Mutta Jeesuksesta Jumala sanoi niin. Hän sanoi myös: »Minä olen hänen Isänsä ja hän minun Poikani.» Ja vielä uudelleen, kun hänen esikoisensa tuli maailmaan, Jumala sanoi: »Kaikki enkelit palvelkoot häntä.»

6 And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”

7 Now about the angels He says: “He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire.”

7 Jumala nimittää enkeleitään läheteiksi, jotka ovat nopeita kuin tuuli, ja palvelijoiksi, jotka ovat kuin tulenliekit.

8 But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.

8 Mutta Pojastaan hän sanoo: »Jumala, sinun valtakuntasi kestää ikuisesti. Sinä hallitset aina oikeudenmukaisesti.

9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You above Your companions with the oil of joy.”

9 Rakastat oikeutta ja vihaat vääryyttä. Siksi Jumala, sinunkin Jumalasi, on antanut sinulle iloa enemmän kuin kenellekään muulle.»

10 And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

10 Jumala on käyttänyt hänestä myös nimeä Herra: »Herra, sinä teit alussa maan, ja taivaat ovat sinun käsialaasi.

11 They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.

11 Kerran ne tuhoutuvat olemattomiin, mutta sinä olet olemassa ikuisesti. Ne kuluvat loppuun kuin vanha vaate,

12 You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”

12 ja tulee päivä, jona sinä käärit ne kokoon ja siirrät syrjään. Mutta sinä itse et muutu eikä sinun aikasi lopu.»

13 Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?

13 Onko Jumala sanonut kenellekään enkelille: »Istu tähän viereeni kunniapaikalle, niin murskaan kaikki vihollisesi jalkoihisi»? Pojalleen hän sanoi näin.

14 Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

14 Enkelit sen sijaan ovat palvelevia henkiä. Jumala on lähettänyt heidät auttamaan niitä ihmisiä, jotka hän pelastaa.
