Hebrews 13

1 Continue in brotherly love.

1 Rakastakaa toisianne kuin saman perheen lapset.

2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

2 Osoittakaa vieraanvaraisuutta, sillä muutamat ovat tietämättään saaneet pitää enkeleitä vierainaan.

3 Remember those in prison as if you were bound with them, and those who are mistreated as if you were suffering with them.

3 Älkää unohtako vankeja! Kärsikää heidän kanssaan niin kuin olisitte itse vankilassa. Surkaa yhdessä niiden kanssa, jotka saavat osakseen huonoa kohtelua – tiedättehän miltä se heistä tuntuu.

4 Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

4 Pitäkää kunniassa avioliittonne ja sitä solmittaessa tekemänne lupaukset ja eläkää puhtaasti. Jumala tuomitsee kaikki avionrikkojat ja muut moraalittomat ihmiset.

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”

5 Älkää olko rahanahneita – tyytykää siihen, mitä teillä on. Onhan Jumala sanonut: »Minä en koskaan hylkää enkä jätä sinua.»

6 So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

6 Siksi voimme sanoa turvallisina: »Minun auttajani on Herra. En pelkää mitään, mitä ihminen voi minulle tehdä.»

7 Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

7 Muistakaa johtajianne, jotka ovat opettaneet teille Jumalan sanaa. Ajatelkaa, miten paljon hyvää he ovat saaneet elämässään aikaan, ja luottakaa tekin Herraan samalla tavoin kuin he.

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

8 Jeesus Kristus on sama eilen, tänään ja ikuisesti.

9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace and not by foods of no value to those devoted to them.

9 Älkää siksi antautuko uusien, outojen oppien lumoihin. Tehän saatte hengellisen voimanne lahjana Jumalalta, eikä teidän tarvitse etsiä sitä noudattamalla tiettyjä ruokamääräyksiä. Tällaisesta ei ole ollut mitään hyötyä niille, jotka ovat sitä yrittäneet.

10 We have an altar from which those who serve at the tabernacle have no right to eat.

10 Risti, jolla Kristus uhrattiin, on meidän alttarimme. Tästä uhrista ei ole apua niille, jotka yhä yrittävät pelastua lakeja noudattamalla.

11 Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.

11 Juutalaisten lakien mukaanhan ylipappi toi uhrieläinten veren temppelin kaikkeinpyhimpään uhrina synnistä. Eläinten ruumiit poltettiin sen jälkeen kaupungin ulkopuolella.

12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate, to sanctify the people by His own blood.

12 Siksi Jeesuskin kärsi ja kuoli kaupungin ulkopuolella puhdistaakseen meidät omalla verellään.

13 Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore.

13 Myös meidän on mentävä porttien ulkopuolelle ja kärsittävä Kristuksen kanssa muiden pilkkaa.

14 For here we do not have a permanent city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

14 Tämä maailma ei ole kotimme. Me odotamme pääsyä ikuiseen taivaan kotiin.

15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name.

15 Jeesuksen tähden voimme aina uhrata kiitosuhria Jumalalle siten, että kerromme toisille, miten ihmeellinen hän on.

16 And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

16 Älkää unohtako tehdä hyvää ja jakaa omastanne puutetta kärsiville, sillä sellaisista uhreista Jumala pitää!

17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch over your souls as those who must give an account. To this end, allow them to lead with joy and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you.

17 Totelkaa hengellisiä johtajianne ja tehkää heidän neuvonsa mukaan. Jumala on pannut heidät teidän sielunne vartijoiksi, ja he ovat hänelle vastuussa työstään. Eläkää niin, että heillä on kerrottavana Herralle teistä iloisia eikä suinkaan murheellisia uutisia, joista itsekin kärsisitte.

18 Pray for us; we are convinced that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.

18 Rukoilkaa meidän puolestamme, sillä omatuntomme on puhdas ja tahdomme sen myös säilyvän puhtaana.

19 And I especially urge you to pray that I may be restored to you soon.

19 Toivon teidän rukoilevan nyt erityisesti sitä, että pääsisin mitä pikimmin takaisin luoksenne.

20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,

20–21 Toivon vielä, että rauhan Jumala, joka herätti Herran Jeesuksen kuolleista, antaisi teille kaiken, mitä tarvitsette voidaksenne elää niin kuin hän haluaa. Jeesus on hyvä ja suuri paimen. Hänen verensä merkitsee ikuisesti kestävää liittoa Jumalan ja teidän välillänne. Suokoon Jumala, että Kristuksen voima saisi tehdä teistä sellaisia kuin Jumala tahtoo. Hänelle kunnia ikuisesti! Aamen.

21 equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

22 I urge you, brothers, to bear with my word of exhortation, for I have only written to you briefly.

22 Rakkaat ystävät! Lukekaa kärsivällisesti tämä kirjeeni loppuun saakka, sillä eihän se ole pitkä.

23 Be aware that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.

23 Tiedättekö muuten, että Timoteus-veljemme on päässyt vankilasta! Jos hän tulee pian tänne, lähdemme yhdessä teidän luoksenne.

24 Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy send you greetings.

24–25 Terveisiä kaikille johtajillenne ja muille Jeesukseen uskoville. Italiasta tulleet kristityt, jotka ovat täällä luonani, lähettävät teille rakkaita terveisiä. Jumalan armo kanssanne! Näkemiin!
