James 2

1 My brothers, as you hold out your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, do not show favoritism.

1 प्रिय भाई बहनो, तुम हमारे महिमामय प्रभु येशु मसीह के शिष्य हो इसलिये तुममें पक्षपात का भाव न हो.

2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.

2 तुम्हारी सभा में यदि कोई व्यक्ति सोने के छल्ले तथा ऊंचे स्तर के कपड़े पहने हुए प्रवेश करे और वहीं एक निर्धन व्यक्ति भी मैले कपड़ों में आए,

3 If you lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”

3 तुम ऊंचे स्तर के वस्त्र धारण किए हुए व्यक्ति का तो विशेष आदर करते हुए उससे कहो, “आप इस आसन पर विराजिए” तथा उस निर्धन से कहो, “तू जाकर वहां खड़ा रह” या “यहां मेरे पैरों के पास नीचे बैठ जा,”

4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

4 क्या तुमने यहां भेद-भाव प्रकट नहीं किया? क्या तुम बुरे विचार से न्याय करनेवाले न हुए?

5 Listen, my beloved brothers: Has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love Him?

5 सुनो! मेरे प्रिय भाई बहनो, क्या परमेश्वर ने संसार के निर्धनों को विश्वास में सम्पन्‍न होने तथा उस राज्य के वारिस होने के लिए नहीं चुन लिया, जिसकी प्रतिज्ञा परमेश्वर ने उनसे की है, जो उनसे प्रेम करते हैं?

6 But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?

6 किंतु तुमने उस निर्धन व्यक्ति का अपमान किया है. क्या धनी ही वे नहीं, जो तुम्हारा शोषण कर रहे हैं? क्या ये ही वे नहीं, जो तुम्हें न्यायालय में घसीट ले जाते हैं?

7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the noble name by which you have been called?

7 क्या ये ही उस सम्मान योग्य नाम की निंदा नहीं कर रहे, जो नाम तुम्हारी पहचान है?

8 If you really fulfill the royal law stated in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

8 यदि तुम पवित्र शास्त्र के अनुसार इस राजसी व्यवस्था को पूरा कर रहे हो, “अपने पड़ोसी से तुम इस प्रकार प्रेम करो, जिस प्रकार तुम स्वयं से करते हो,” तो तुम उचित कर रहे हो.

9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

9 किंतु यदि तुम्हारा व्यवहार भेद-भाव से भरा है, तुम पाप कर रहे हो और व्यवस्था द्वारा दोषी ठहरते हो.

10 Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

10 कारण यह है कि यदि कोई पूरी व्यवस्था का पालन करे किंतु एक ही सूत्र में चूक जाए तो वह पूरी व्यवस्था का दोषी बन गया है

11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

11 क्योंकि जिन्होंने यह आज्ञा दी, “व्यभिचार मत करो,” उन्हीं ने यह आज्ञा भी दी है, “हत्या मत करो.” यदि तुम व्यभिचार नहीं करते किंतु किसी की हत्या कर देते हो, तो तुम व्यवस्था के दोषी हो गए.

12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom.

12 इसलिये तुम्हारी कथनी और करनी उनके समान हो, जिनका न्याय स्वतंत्रता की व्यवस्था के अनुसार किया जाएगा,

13 For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

13 जिसमें दयाभाव नहीं, उसका न्याय भी दयारहित ही होगा. दया न्याय पर जय पाती है.

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

14 प्रिय भाई बहनो, क्या लाभ है यदि कोई यह दावा करे कि उसे विश्वास है किंतु उसका स्वभाव इसके अनुसार नहीं? क्या ऐसा विश्वास उसे उद्धार प्रदान करेगा?

15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

15 यदि किसी के पास पर्याप्‍त वस्त्र न हों, उसे दैनिक भोजन की भी ज़रूरत हो

16 If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?

16 और तुममें से कोई उससे यह कहे, “कुशलतापूर्वक जाओ, ठंड से बचना और खा-पीकर संतुष्ट रहना!” जब तुम उसे उसकी ज़रूरत के अनुसार कुछ भी नहीं दे रहे तो यह कहकर तुमने उसका कौन सा भला कर दिया?

17 So too, faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead.

17 इसी प्रकार यदि वह विश्वास, जिसकी पुष्टि कामों के द्वारा नहीं होती, मरा हुआ है.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

18 कदाचित कोई यह कहे, “चलो, विश्वास तुम्हारा और काम मेरा.” तुम अपना विश्वास बिना काम के प्रदर्शित करो, और मैं अपना विश्वास अपने काम के द्वारा.

19 You believe that God is one. Good for you! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

19 यदि तुम्हारा यह विश्वास है कि परमेश्वर एक हैं, अति उत्तम! दुष्टात्माएं भी यही विश्वास करती है और भयभीत हो कांपती हैं.

20 O foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is worthless?

20 अरे निपट अज्ञानी! क्या अब यह भी साबित करना होगा कि काम बिना विश्वास व्यर्थ है?

21 Was not our father Abraham justified by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

21 क्या हमारे पूर्वज अब्राहाम को, जब वह वेदी पर यित्सहाक की बलि भेंट करने को थे, उनके काम के आधार पर धर्मी घोषित नहीं किया गया?

22 You see that his faith was working with his actions, and his faith was perfected by what he did.

22 तुम्हीं देख लो कि उनके काम के साथ उनका विश्वास भी सक्रिय था. इसलिये उनके काम के फलस्वरूप उनका विश्वास सबसे उत्तम ठहराया गया था

23 And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.

23 और पवित्र शास्त्र का यह लेख पूरा हो गया, “अब्राहाम ने परमेश्वर में विश्वास किया और उनका यह काम उनकी धार्मिकता मानी गई,” और वह परमेश्वर के मित्र कहलाए.

24 As you can see, a man is justified by his deeds and not by faith alone.

24 तुम्हीं देख लो कि व्यक्ति को उसके काम के द्वारा धर्मी माना जाता है, मात्र विश्वास के आधार पर नहीं.

25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute justified by her actions when she welcomed the spies and sent them off on another route?

25 इसी प्रकार क्या राहाब वेश्या को भी धर्मी न माना गया, जब उसने उन गुप्‍तचरों को अपने घर में शरण दी और उन्हें एक भिन्‍न मार्ग से वापस भेजा?

26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

26 ठीक जैसे आत्मा के बिना शरीर मरा हुआ है, वैसे ही काम बिना विश्वास भी मरा हुआ है.
