James 1

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes of the Dispersion: Greetings.

1 परमेश्वर तथा प्रभु येशु मसीह के दास याकोब की, ओर से तितर-बितर हो रहे बारह गोत्रों को: नमस्कार.

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds,

2 प्रिय भाई बहनो, जब तुम विभिन्‍न प्रकार की परीक्षाओं का सामना करते हो तो इसे निरे हर्ष का विषय समझो

3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

3 क्योंकि तुम जानते ही हो कि तुम्हारे विश्वास की परीक्षा से धीरज उत्पन्‍न होता है.

4 Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

4 धीरज को अपना काम पूरा कर लेने दो कि तुम निर्दोष और सिद्ध हो जाओ और तुममें किसी भी प्रकार की कमी न रह जाए.

5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

5 यदि तुममें से किसी में भी ज्ञान का अभाव है, वह परमेश्वर से विनती करे, जो दोष लगाये बिना सभी को उदारतापूर्वक प्रदान करते हैं और वह ज्ञान उसे दी जाएगी,

6 But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

6 किंतु वह बिना शंका के विश्वास से मांगे क्योंकि जो संदेह करता है, वह समुद्र की उस चंचल लहर के समान है, जो हवा के चलने से उछाली और फेंकी जाती है.

7 That man should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

7 ऐसा व्यक्ति यह आशा बिलकुल न करे कि उसे प्रभु की ओर से कुछ प्राप्‍त होगा.

8 He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

8 ऐसा व्यक्ति का मन तो दुविधा से ग्रस्त है—अपने सारे स्वभाव में स्थिर नहीं है.

9 The brother in humble circumstances should exult in his high position.

9 दीन व्यक्ति अपने ऊंचे पद में गर्व करे

10 But the one who is rich should exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a flower of the field.

10 और धनी दीनता में. जंगली फूल के समान उसका जीवन समाप्‍त हो जाएगा.

11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

11 सूर्य की तेज गर्मी से घास मुरझा जाती है और उसमें खिला फूल झड़ जाता है. उसकी सुंदरता नाश हो जाती है. इसी प्रकार धनी व्यक्ति अपनी उपलब्धियों के साथ साथ धूल में मिट जाएगा.

12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

12 धन्य है वह व्यक्ति, जो परख-परीक्षाओं में स्थिर रहता है क्योंकि परीक्षा में खरा साबित होने पर उसे वह जीवन-मुकुट प्रदान किया जाएगा, जिसकी प्रतिज्ञा परमेश्वर ने उनके लिए की है, जो उनसे प्रेम करते हैं.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.

13 परीक्षा में पड़ने पर कोई भी यह न कहे: “परमेश्वर मुझे परीक्षा में डाल रहे हैं,” क्योंकि न तो परमेश्वर को किसी परीक्षा में डाला जा सकता है और न ही वह स्वयं किसी को परीक्षा में डालते हैं.

14 But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.

14 हर एक व्यक्ति स्वयं अपनी ही अभिलाषा में पड़कर तथा फंसकर परीक्षा में जा पड़ता है.

15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

15 तब अभिलाषा गर्भधारण करती है और पाप को जन्म देती है और फिर पाप बढ़ जाता है और मृत्यु उत्पन्‍न करता है.

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

16 प्रिय भाई बहनो, धोखे में न रहना.

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

17 हर एक अच्छा वरदान और निर्दोष दान ऊपर से अर्थात् ज्योतियों के पिता की ओर से आता है, जिनमें न तो कोई परिवर्तन है और न अदल-बदल.

18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.

18 उन्होंने अपनी इच्छा पूरी करने के लिए हमें सत्य के वचन के द्वारा नया जीवन दिया है कि हम उनके द्वारा बनाए गए प्राणियों में पहले फल के समान हों.

19 My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

19 प्रिय भाई बहनो, यह ध्यान रहे कि तुम सुनने में तत्पर, बोलने में धीर तथा क्रोध में धीमे हो,

20 for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires.

20 क्योंकि मनुष्य के क्रोध के द्वारा परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता नहीं मिल सकती.

21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.

21 इसलिये सारी मलिनता तथा बैरभाव का त्याग कर नम्रतापूर्वक उस वचन को ग्रहण करो, जिसे तुम्हारे हृदय में बोया गया है, जो तुम्हारे उद्धार में सामर्थ्यी है.

22 Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.

22 वचन की शिक्षा पर चलनेवाले बनो, न कि सिर्फ सुननेवाले, जो स्वयं को धोखे में रखते हैं

23 For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror,

23 क्योंकि यदि कोई वचन की शिक्षा का सिर्फ सुननेवाले है किंतु पालन नहीं करता, वह उस व्यक्ति के समान है, जो अपना मुख दर्पण में देखता है.

24 and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

24 उसमें उसने स्वयं को देखा और चला गया और तुरंत ही भूल गया कि कैसा था उसका रूप.

25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.

25 किंतु जिसने निर्दोष व्यवस्था का गहन अध्ययन कर लिया है—जो वस्तुतः स्वतंत्रता का विधान है तथा जो उसी में स्थिर रहता है, वह व्यक्ति सुनकर भूलनेवाला नहीं परंतु समर्थ पालन करनेवाला हो जाता है. ऐसा व्यक्ति अपने हर एक काम में आशीषित होगा.

26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.

26 यदि कोई व्यक्ति अपने आपको भक्त समझता है और फिर भी अपनी जीभ पर लगाम नहीं लगाता, वह अपने मन को धोखे में रखे हुए है और उसकी भक्ति बेकार है.

27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

27 हमारे परमेश्वर और पिता की दृष्टि में बिलकुल शुद्ध और निष्कलंक भक्ति यह है: मुसीबत में पड़े अनाथों और विधवाओं की सुधि लेना तथा स्वयं को संसार के बुरे प्रभाव से निष्कलंक रखना.
