Proverbs 1

1 These are the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel,

1 इस्राएल के राजा, दावीद के पुत्र शलोमोन की सूक्तियां:

2 for gaining wisdom and discipline, for comprehending words of insight,

2 ज्ञान और शिक्षा से परिचय के लिए; शब्दों को समझने के निमित्त ज्ञान;

3 and for receiving instruction in wise living and in righteousness, justice, and equity.

3 व्यवहार कुशलता के लिए निर्देश-प्राप्‍ति, धर्मी, पक्षपात किए बिना तथा न्यायसंगति के लिए;

4 To impart prudence to the simple and knowledge and discretion to the young,

4 साधारण व्यक्ति को समझ प्रदान करने के लिए, युवाओं को ज्ञान और निर्णय-बुद्धि प्रदान करने के लिए.

5 let the wise listen and gain instruction, and the discerning acquire wise counsel

5 बुद्धिमान इन्हें सुनकर अपनी बुद्धि को बढ़ाए, समझदार व्यक्ति बुद्धिमानी का परामर्श प्राप्‍त करे;

6 by understanding the proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

6 कि वह सूक्ति तथा दृष्टांत को, बुद्धिमानों की योजना को और उनके रहस्यों को समझ सके.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

7 याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा ही ज्ञान का प्रारम्भ-बिंदु है, मूर्ख हैं वे, जो ज्ञान और अनुशासन को तुच्छ मानते हैं.

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.

8 मेरे पुत्र, अपने पिता के अनुशासन पर ध्यान देना और अपनी माता की शिक्षा को न भूलना.

9 For they are a garland of grace on your head and a pendant around your neck.

9 क्योंकि ये तुम्हारे सिर के लिए सुंदर अलंकार और तुम्हारे कण्ठ के लिए माला हैं.

10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not yield to them.

10 मेरे पुत्र, यदि पापी तुम्हें प्रलोभित करें, उनसे सहमत न हो जाना.

11 If they say, “Come along, let us lie in wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause,

11 यदि वे यह कहें, “हमारे साथ चलो; हम हत्या के लिए घात लगाएंगे, हम बिना किसी कारण निर्दोष पर छिपकर आक्रमण करें;

12 let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those descending into the Pit.

12 अधोलोक के समान हम भी उन्हें जीवित ही निगल जाएं, पूरा ही निगल जाएं, जैसे लोग कब्र में समा जाते हैं;

13 We will find all manner of precious goods; we will fill our houses with plunder.

13 तब हमें सभी अमूल्य वस्तुएं प्राप्‍त हो जाएंगी इस लूट से हम अपने घरों को भर लेंगे;

14 Throw in your lot with us; let us all share one purse”—

14 जो कुछ तुम्हारे पास है, सब हमें दो; तब हम सभी का एक ही बटुआ हो जाएगा.”

15 my son, do not walk the road with them or set foot upon their path.

15 मेरे पुत्र, उनके इस मार्ग के सहयात्री न बन जाना, उनके मार्गों का चालचलन करने से अपने पैरों को रोके रखना;

16 For their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed blood.

16 क्योंकि उनके पैर बुराई की दिशा में ही दौड़ते हैं, हत्या के लिए तो वे फुर्तीले हो जाते हैं.

17 How futile it is to spread the net where any bird can see it!

17 यदि किसी पक्षी के देखते-देखते उसके लिए जाल बिछाया जाए, तो यह निरर्थक होता है!

18 But they lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own lives.

18 किंतु ये व्यक्ति ऐसे हैं, जो अपने लिए ही घात लगाए बैठे हैं; वे अपने ही प्राण लेने की प्रतीक्षा में हैं.

19 Such is the fate of all who are greedy, whose unjust gain takes the lives of its possessors.

19 यही चाल है हर एक ऐसे व्यक्ति की, जो अवैध लाभ के लिए लोभ करता है; यह लोभ अपने ही स्वामियों के प्राण ले लेगा.

20 Wisdom calls out in the street, she lifts her voice in the square;

20 ज्ञान गली में उच्च स्वर में पुकार रही है, व्यापार केंद्रों में वह अपना स्वर उठा रही है;

21 in the main concourse she cries aloud, at the city gates she makes her speech:

21 व्यस्त मार्गों के उच्चस्थ स्थान पर वह पुकार रही है, नगर प्रवेश पर वह यह बातें कह रही है:

22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love your simple ways? How long will scoffers delight in their scorn and fools hate knowledge?

22 “हे भोले लोगो, कब तक तुम्हें भोलापन प्रिय रहेगा? ठट्ठा करनेवालो, कब तक उपहास तुम्हारे विनोद का विषय और मूर्खो, ज्ञान तुम्हारे लिए घृणास्पद रहेगा?

23 If you had repented at my rebuke, then surely I would have poured out my spirit on you; I would have made my words known to you.

23 यदि मेरे धिक्कारने पर तुम मेरे पास आ जाते! तो मैं तुम्हें अपनी आत्मा से भर देती, तुम मेरे विचार समझने लगते.

24 Because you refused my call, and no one took my outstretched hand,

24 मैंने पुकारा और तुमने इसकी अनसुनी कर दी, मैंने अपना हाथ बढ़ाया किंतु किसी ने ध्यान ही न दिया,

25 because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,

25 मेरे सभी परामर्शों की तुमने उपेक्षा की और मेरी किसी भी ताड़ना का तुम पर प्रभाव न पड़ा है,

26 in turn I will mock your calamity; I will sneer when terror strikes you,

26 मैं भी तुम पर विपत्ति के अवसर पर हंसूंगी; जब तुम पर आतंक का आक्रमण होगा, मैं तुम्हारा उपहास करूंगी—

27 when your dread comes like a storm, and your destruction like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish overwhelm you.

27 जब आतंक आंधी के समान और विनाश बवंडर के समान आएगा, जब तुम पर दुःख और संकट का पहाड़ टूट पड़ेगा.

28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will earnestly seek me, but will not find me.

28 “उस समय उन्हें मेरा स्मरण आएगा, किंतु मैं उन्हें उत्तर न दूंगी; वे बड़े यत्नपूर्वक मुझे खोजेंगे, किंतु पाएंगे नहीं.

29 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD.

29 क्योंकि उन्होंने ज्ञान से घृणा की थी और याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा को उपयुक्त न समझा.

30 They accepted none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof.

30 उन्होंने मेरा एक भी परामर्श स्वीकार नहीं किया उन्होंने मेरी ताड़नाओं को तुच्छ समझा,

31 So they will eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

31 परिणामस्वरूप वे अपनी करनी का फल भोगेंगे उनकी युक्तियों का पूरा-पूरा परिणाम उन्हीं के सिर पर आ पड़ेगा.

32 For the waywardness of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

32 सरल-साधारण व्यक्ति सुसंगत मार्ग छोड़ देते और मृत्यु का कारण हो जाते हैं, तथा मूर्खों की मनमानी उन्हें ले डूबती है;

33 But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”

33 किंतु कोई भी, जो मेरी सुनता है, सुरक्षा में बसा रहेगा वह निश्चिंत रहेगा, क्योंकि उसे विपत्ति का कोई भय न होगा.”
