Proverbs 9

1 Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.

1 A sabedoria construiu sua grande casa sobre sete colunas

2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.

2 e preparou uma grande festa, com bastante carne e vinho.

3 She has sent out her maidservants; she calls out from the heights of the city.

3 Enviou suas servas para saírem pelas ruas da cidade, levando o convite desde o ponto mais alto da cidade, clamando:

4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.

4 “Venham à minha casa as pessoas sem compreensão da vida”. Aos que não têm entendimento diz:

5 “Come, eat my bread and drink the wine I have mixed.

5 “Venham e comam do meu banquete e bebam do vinho que preparei.

6 Leave your folly behind, and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.”

6 Deixem para trás a insensatez e vocês viverão de verdade. Venham andar pelo caminho do entendimento!”

7 He who corrects a mocker brings shame on himself; he who rebukes a wicked man taints himself.

7 Se você tentar corrigir uma pessoa debochada, acabará sendo ofendido e odiado. Se você tentar corrigir uma pessoa perversa estará prejudicando o seu próprio nome.

8 Do not rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

8 Por isso, não repreenda o zombador, para que ele não o odeie; repreenda o sábio, e ele o amará!

9 Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.

9 Ensine a pessoa sábia, e ela será ainda mais sábia. Ensine o justo, e ele crescerá em entendimento.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

10 O temor do Senhor é a chave da sabedoria, e o conhecimento do Santo é a verdadeira compreensão da vida.

11 For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.

11 Porque por meu intermédio se multiplicarão os seus dias, e os anos de vida se acrescentarão.

12 If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage; but if you scoff, you alone will bear the consequences.

12 E lembre-se que a sabedoria só traz benefícios; você mesmo tira proveito dela. Se, por outro lado, você preferir zombar dela, sofrerá as consequências.

13 The woman named Folly is loud; she is naive and knows nothing.

13 A loucura parece uma mulher dominada pelo fogo da paixão, que nada sabe nem deseja saber.

14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the heights of the city,

14 Fica sentada à porta de sua casa ou senta no ponto mais alto da cidade, toma uma cadeira,

15 calling out to those who pass by, who make their paths straight.

15 e faz propostas aos que passam por ali e tratam de seus negócios; ela diz:

16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.

16 “Venham todos os inexperientes!” E aos que não têm bom senso ela diz:

17 “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is tasty!”

17 “A bebida roubada é mais doce! O pão roubado que é comido às escondidas é muito mais saboroso!”

18 But they do not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

18 E muitos vão atrás dela; sem saber que estão caminhando para as sombras da morte e que os convidados da loucura já estão nas profundezas da sepultura.
