Psalms 140

1 For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men. Protect me from men of violence,

1 Ó Senhor, livre-me dos homens maus, do homem violento,

2 who devise evil in their hearts and stir up war all day long.

2 pois vivem planejando maldades e cada dia se reúnem para provocar brigas e problemas.

3 They sharpen their tongues like snakes; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Selah

3 As palavras deles são mais perigosas que veneno das serpentes! Têm veneno de cobra em seus lábios!

4 Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Keep me safe from men of violence who scheme to make me stumble.

4 Proteja-me, Senhor, das mãos dos maus! Salve-me dos homens violentos, porque eles se esforçam para me tirar do seu caminho.

5 The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. Selah

5 Cheios de orgulho, preparam armadilhas para me apanhar, laços para prenderem meus pés, redes para lançarem sobre mim. Sim, eles tentam de todos os meios armar ciladas contra mim!

6 I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for help.

6 Eu, no entanto, digo ao Senhor: “O Senhor é o meu Deus”. Ouça, Senhor, a minha oração, pedindo misericórdia!

7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You shield my head in the day of battle.

7 Ó Soberano Senhor, meu Salvador poderoso; o Senhor guardou a minha vida nas batalhas.

8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not promote their evil plans, lest they be exalted. Selah

8 Não permita que os pecadores realizem seus planos malvados para me destruir, para que não se orgulhem!

9 May the heads of those who surround me be covered in the trouble their lips have caused.

9 Ó Deus, faça voltar contra eles mesmos a maldade que espalham com as suas palavras.

10 May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the miry pits, never to rise again.

10 Caiam brasas sobre eles, e sejam atirados dentro do fogo ou em poços bem fundos de onde jamais possam sair.

11 May no slanderer be established in the land; may calamity hunt down the man of violence.

11 Os mentirosos jamais conseguirão uma posição firme nesta terra. O homem violento será castigado com a violência, golpe sobre golpe.

12 I know that the LORD upholds justice for the poor and defends the cause of the needy.

12 Sei que o Senhor cuidará pessoalmente do aflito e do necessitado e fará justiça ao pobre.

13 Surely the righteous will praise Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.

13 Por isso, os justos darão graças ao seu nome, e os homens íntegros viverão para sempre na sua presença.
