Matthew 15

1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,

1 Jerusalemista tuli fariseuksia ja muita juutalaisten johtomiehiä keskustelemaan Jeesuksen kanssa.

2 “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands before they eat.”

2 He tiukkasivat: »Miksi sinun oppilaasi eivät noudata vanhaa juutalaisten perinnäissääntöä? Hehän eivät pese käsiään, ennen kuin rupeavat syömään.»

3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?

3 Jeesus vastasi: »Miksi teidän sääntönne sitten rikkovat Jumalan selviä käskyjä?

4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’

4 Jumala on esimerkiksi käskenyt:’Kunnioita isääsi ja äitiäsi! Sen, joka pilkkaa vanhempiaan, on kuoltava.’

5 But you say that if anyone says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’

5–6 Te sen sijaan sanotte:’Vaikka vanhempasi eläisivät puutteessa, voit antaa heille kuuluvan avustuksen temppelille.’ Olette omatekoisella säännöllänne mitätöineet Jumalan käskyn kunnioittaa vanhempia ja huolehtia heistä.

6 he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:

7 Tekopyhät! Jesaja ennusti teistä oikein:

8 ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.

8 ’Tämä kansa sanoo kunnioittavansa minua, mutta sen sydän on minusta kaukana.

9 They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”

9 Sen jumalanpalvelus on arvotonta, sillä se opettaa Jumalan käskyjen sijasta omia sääntöjään.’»

10 Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand.

10 Jeesus huusi kansanjoukon luokseen ja sanoi: »Kuunnelkaa ja yrittäkää ymmärtää, mitä tarkoitan:

11 A man is not defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it.”

11 Ette te tule epäpyhiksi mistään ruuista! Teidän puheenne ja ajatuksenne teidät saastuttavat.»

12 Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Are You aware that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”

12 Oppilaat tulivat sanomaan hänelle: »Fariseukset suuttuvat kyllä tuosta väitteestä.»

13 But Jesus replied, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by its roots.

13 Jeesus vastasi: »Jokainen kasvi, jota Isäni ei ole istuttanut, on revittävä juurineen maasta.

14 Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

14 Älkää siis heistä välittäkö. He ovat itse sokeita sokeiden taluttajia. Molemmat kaatuvat ojaan.»

15 Peter said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”

15 Pietari pyysi Jeesusta selittämään, mitä hän tarkoitti sillä, ettei mikään ruoka saastuta ihmistä.

16 “Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked.

16 Jeesus ihmetteli: »Ettekö käsitä?

17 “Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated?

17 Tiedättehän, että ruoka kulkee suolistossa ja poistuu kehosta.

18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man.

18 Sen sijaan pahojen sanojen lähteenä on paha sydän. Ne saastuttavat ihmisen.

19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.

19 Pahat ajatukset, murhat, uskottomuus, irralliset sukupuolisuhteet, varkaudet, valehteleminen ja jumalanpilkka saavat alkunsa sydämestä.

20 These are what defile a man, but eating with unwashed hands does not defile him.”

20 Näistä ihminen saastuu. Mutta ette te saastu sisäisesti, vaikka jättäisittekin kätenne pesemättä ennen ateriaa.»

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

21 Jeesus siirtyi siltä seudulta Tyyron ja Siidonin alueelle.

22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came to Him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is miserably possessed by a demon.”

22 Eräs kanaanilainen nainen, joka asui siellä, tuli pyytämään Jeesukselta: »Auta minua, Herra, Daavidin poika! Tyttäressäni on paha henki, joka vaivaa häntä jatkuvasti.»

23 But Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came and urged Him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

23 Jeesus ei vastannut mitään. Oppilaat kehottivat Jeesusta ajamaan naisen tiehensä. »Hänen kerjäämisensä vaivaa meitä», he valittivat.

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

24 Silloin Jeesus sanoi naiselle: »Minut on lähetetty auttamaan juutalaisia, ei pakanoita.»

25 The woman came and knelt before Him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

25 Mutta nainen tuli hänen eteensä, kumarsi kunnioittavasti ja pyysi taas: »Voi Herra, auta minua!»

26 But Jesus replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

26 Jeesus sanoi: »Ei ole oikein heittää lasten leipää koirille.»

27 “Yes, Lord,” she said, “even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

27 »Mutta koiranpennuillakin on oikeus syödä pöydältä putoavia muruja», nainen väitti.

28 “O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

28 »Hyvä ystävä, sinulla on luja usko. Saat mitä pyydät», Jeesus vastasi. Naisen tytär tuli samalla hetkellä terveeksi.

29 Moving on from there, Jesus went along the Sea of Galilee. Then He went up on a mountain and sat down.

29 Tämän jälkeen Jeesus palasi Genesaretin järven rannalle. Hän kiipesi vuorenrinteelle ja istuutui.

30 Large crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and laid them at His feet, and He healed them.

30 Sankka ihmisjoukko tuli hänen luokseen ja toi mukanaan liikuntakyvyttömiä, sokeita, mykkiä ja muita sairaita ja vammaisia. Jeesus paransi heidät kaikki.

31 The crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.

31 Se oli valtava näytelmä! Mykät pystyivät puhumaan, vammaiset saivat terveet jäsenet, liikuntakyvyttömät kävelivät ja hyppivät ja sokeat katselivat kaikkea suurin silmin! Kansanjoukko ei voinut muuta kuin hämmästellä ja ylistää Israelin Jumalaa.

32 Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I have compassion for this crowd, because they have already been with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may faint along the way.”

32 Jeesus pyysi oppilaansa luokseen ja sanoi heille: »Minun käy näitä ihmisiä sääliksi. He ovat olleet täällä luonani jo kolme päivää eikä heillä ole enää jäljellä mitään syötävää. En haluaisi lähettää heitä kotiin nälkäisinä, hehän nääntyisivät matkalla.»

33 The disciples replied, “Where in this desolate place could we find enough bread to feed such a large crowd?”

33 Oppilaat vastasivat: »Mistä luulet meidän saavan täällä autiomaassa tarpeeksi syötävää tällaiselle joukolle?»

34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”

34 Jeesus kysyi: »Mitä teillä on mukananne?» He vastasivat: »Seitsemän leipää ja muutama pieni kala.»

35 And He instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground.

35 Silloin Jeesus kehotti kaikkia ihmisiä istumaan maahan.

36 Taking the seven loaves and the fish, He gave thanks and broke them. Then He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

36 Hän otti ne seitsemän leipää ja kalat, kiitti niistä Jumalaa ja mursi ne palasiksi. Oppilaat veivät ne kansanjoukoille.

37 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

37–38 Kaikki söivät itsensä kylläisiksi – neljäntuhannen miehen lisäksi naiset ja lapset. Jälkeenpäin koottiin vielä tähteitä seitsemän täyttä korillista.

38 A total of four thousand men were fed, besides women and children.

39 After Jesus had dismissed the crowds, He got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan.

39 Jeesus lähetti sitten ihmiset kotiin ja lähti itse veneellä Magadanin alueelle.
